We lost our confirmation at Villa Rosa beware Positano

Several day ago I had gotten advice about a hotel in Positano and confirmed a double room. high with a seaview.I sent my credit card info. Today I was E-mailed stating that room was not available.I could have a room with a building, blocking a view,or I could have this suite that he tried to push on me . Before the price was more than 100 euros more.I really believe he was trying to hustle me.I refused but now I need a room .Could someone help and give me a place where they stayed that made them very happy. Thanks for your time .If you need more info let me know the total trip is 23 days Sept. 20.to Oct. 13. Thanks

Sorry that happened. Just as well that you aren't going to end up being disappointed when you arrive.

Are you staying in Positano the whole time? When do you need the room there?

That is too bad. I wonder if the VR has changed owners because the place has a very good reputation, and the only negatives stated here usually involve the number of steps up to the reception area. We stayed at the VR for 3 nights in '01, so this hardly makes me an authority on it, but at that time the staff were very helpful. I had emailed in Jan. or Feb. for end of May, and didn't even know to ask about the view. They emailed back that we had a room with a view, and we had a lovely one at that.
This must be very frustrating for you; I hope you find another place soon.

Hi Lil,

If you don't mind a small, family run hotel with very nice rooms and a great view for about 1/3 the cost of the Villa Rosa, I can recommend the Le Sirene in Praiano - 6km E of Positano.

We really liked Albergo California which is right next to Villa Rosa. My only complaint was that we did not like the proprietor's restaurant recommendation...

Here's the info on Albergo California:

We also loved Hotel (Albergo) California. I posted a VERY detailed review in my trip report (toward the bottom).

We loved the Villa Franca. We had a large double with a great view of the sea and the town. The resturant, the facilities, and the staff were all quite good. I would recommend this charming inn (a Karen Brown suggestion, if that means anything to you).

We were really happy with Villa Gabrisa. We booked through italyby.com. Everyone there was incredibly nice and friendly, and the price was much less than some of the other places in Positano with views that were just as gorgeous. Our favorite memory of the AC is our breakfasts on our balcony there. We highly recommend it!

We stayed at the Hotel Posa Posa in Positano July 2003, spacious rooms, nice bathroom and a wonderful view.

lilminkey, ttt means "to the top". Intrepid typed this for you so that your thread would go to the top of the post again, so hopefully more people would see it. Anytime someone adds a post to your thread it brings it up to the top. Best wishes regarding your trip to Italy.

We liked this hotel last summer although it's a bit close to the boat dock [some pollution]. The included buffet breakfast was wonderful and you can have it on the seaview terrace. Our room and bathroom were beautiful, also with a huge view terrace, fairly private. Didn't pay that much more for the view room. Also included is about one hour a day of free internet access. There's only one computer but you get a "coupon" at the desk.

hi,
We stayed one week in Praiano at the Tramonto D'Oro. It is around 210-300 euros. the hotel is wonderful. The people who run it, own it and they are so accommodating. The views are fabulous and over look the sea and Positano. There is a huge roof top pool with the specatular views. Praiano is quiet, but very relaxing and we enjoyed our stay there so much and dream about returning. You will have a fabulous time.

Hi lil,

>I was thinking of Praiano, is it as nice? I would imagine it would be a little less congested ..<

Praiano is a very pleasant small town with a very calm atmosphere. There are far fewer tourists.

The views are almost identical to those from Positano, with the exception that from Praiano you can see Positano. Particularly lovely at night.

You might also look into the Onda Verde in Praiano.

Hi Lil,

I will be staying this Sept at the Casa Albertina in Positano which I found in the Fodor's guide book. It's within your price range. I will do a trip report, but of course it won't be in time to help you.

I have stayed before in Praiano at the small hotel across the street from Tramonto d'Oro (frineds of the family). I belive it is called Da Fiori or something similar. I doesn't show up on very many web sites. We also checked out the Tramoto and it looked fabulous. Praiano is peaceful and beautiful.

Buon vaiggio!
