We are planning a 21 day trip to Scotland England and Paris in May 2012.
My partner would like to see a few castles and we have relo's in England who we would spend a few days with. Then to London train to Paris and fly out from there. Any ideas would be appreciated

1. Begin by reading some of the Rick Steve's books.
2. Determine your budget.
3. Determine your length of stay.
4. Pick cities on train routes (unless if you plan to rent a car and drive).
5. Do a search on this Forum for keywords of places that you are interested in. Your questions might have probably already been recently asked.
6. You'll need to use local currency (GBP, EUR) while you're in England / Europe.
7. Enjoy ;-)

Welcome to Fodors Erin.
"<i>Any ideas would be appreciated </i>"
You haven't told us enough to work w/. Start by doing a search (see the 'search the forums' at the top of the page. Use the 'advanced search''option to refine your search. There are thousands of threads about England/Scotland/Paris
You can also click on "Destinations" at the top of the page for more info.
We can give you lots of help --but you need to do a bit of homework and give us something to work w/.
What sort of 'ideas' are you looking for? Accommodations? Places of interest? whatever? Also, England is a big place --where specifically to the relatives live? Do you plan on driving or do you want to use public transport.
Give us something to work with and we can help--a LOT.

Didn't see nancicita's post. She gave useful hints -- but I personally would <i>not</i> recommend Rick Steves guidebooks for the UK. He is good to very good for a lot of countries. But unfortunately, a lot of his advice about England is weird and some is flat wrong.

janisj, I'd have to agree with you on that.
I just suggested Rick Steves as a starting point.
It is true that some of his recommendations are bit boring (have you seen that youtube video where he goes to London and recommended yosushi and wagamama as places to dine? boring!

In the video link above, Rick Steves talks about all the "great restaurants in soho" and then decides to go to two chain restaurants and 1 Belgian restaurant (how odd, London is so close to Brussels, why would a tourist eat moules et frites in London??).
"London's streets feel safe after dark"
I'd have to disagree with that statement.
Anyway, to the OP, do your research first and then come back.
Cheers

Don't Know if you've firmed your trip.
We're going late late August to Dublin 2 days city exposure then North to Antrim County to Bush Mills Wiskey plant, coast Giants Causway, Rope Bridge, Dunluce Castle. then Donegal Irish American History Musesum and Old Mellon Estate using 5 more Days. A Ferry from Larne to Troon Scotland with connecting train/bus to Edinbugh three day stay for Edinburgh Castle, The Royal Yacht, and Shopping, then a bus to Scenic Eyemouth about an hour and half away on the east coast. 1 night. then by train on to Kings Cross London Station. 5 days here visiting the Queen, London Eye, Booking War Horse etc. The fourth Day in London we'll actually round day trip to Paris via eurorail with a booking for dinner Eiffel Tower.
Next day fly home to USA.
We have relatives to visit throughout this trip.
If you've firmed your plans we'd be interested.
Enjoy!

<B> ireukeur12</B>: Welcome toFodors. Erin_Bond has never come back to the forums or posted except for this one last September. You will be <u>much</u> better off starting a new thread of your own w/ your own specific questions.
