We are 1/2 way into our 'adventure' in the UK...... need help with London apartment for the end.

Hi all......having a wonderfull time. Annhig......hope you were well pleased with the weather I bought with me????

We would like to end our adventure with 3-4 nights in London. Can someone suggest an apartment style place within a 20-30 minute tube ride of the city? We would be lookng at 3-4 stars and price based accordingly. Car parking would be an advantage.........but we may just 'give' the car back early.

Everything has gone really well.....lots of adventures...including tow truck in Dartmoor National Park.......CSI/Forensic team visiting our home in Australia etc etc. Should make for an interesting report when I return ;-)

Thanks for any help. AD

Can't wait for the trip report! I was down on Dartmoor last weekend, but unfortunately the weather has turned for the worse for the next few days...

What's all this about forensics - or is it a case of winding us up for the trip report?

Anyway, you could try www.lastminute.com or www.laterooms.com I believe the Dolphin House/Square apartments are very good and quite reasonable.

And in the worst-case scenario I have topped this for you so you may gain more responses...

aussiedreamer - a bit off-topic, but did you end up eating at a Gordon Ramsay pub? which one did you go and how was it? It'd be great if you could reply soon as I can't wait that long!

Hi Aussiedreamer from another Aussie,

just a few ideas, I'd suggest getting rid of the car before you stay in London, you won't need it as public transport goes just about everywhere. Parking will be difficult and expensive.

What we Australians refer to as the city has a different connotation in London. It's always the City (capital C) and refers to the part of London where the banking/finance sector works. It's pretty dead on the weekends as not that many people live in the City - shops shut etc. Hope this helps in your dealings with apartment owners. Basically you don't want to stay in the City but it can be interesting for a walk around.

Here are some apartment ideas:
http://www.aplacelikehome.co.uk/home.aspx
http://www.astons-apartments.com/
http://www.chslondon.com/vr/index.htm
http://www.deepblue-apartments.com/index.html
http://www.vancouverstudios.co.uk/

We stayed in an apartment rented from Deep Blue, near Paddington Station and it was fine though very small, quite a good area for transport links and cheap restaurants.

Also stayed in an apartment that is on Coach House Apartments (chs link above) we really liked it, close to the bus but a bit more of a walk to the tube, it's the one bedroom at Elm Park Gardens for 130 pounds per night. It was quite spacious. You can locate the address on Google Maps.

Another thought is
http://www.citadines.com/
They have a property right near Trafalgar Square which would be a great location.

Hope this helps!

Thanks all. No not winding you up at all................ My two daughters are 'home alone' (21 & 19) and someone attempted to break in..........much drama and very stressful.

Thanks for all the sites. we have our laptop and a great connection, so will research them all now, somewhat familiar with London..we have 'done it' once before.

keep em coming.......

Check out London Guest Suites. There are some flats that have a less than 7 day minimum but check anyway on the ones that do, since you might fit into a slot between other bookings.

Here is another one to check out http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~hamlet_uk/index.htm

They rent by the week but might also be able to work in a short stay between other tenants.

They are at St Katherine's Dock next to the Marina/Tower/Tower Bridge.

Hi aussiedreamer, very keen to see your report when you make it home. Interested that julia_t has mentioned Dolphin Square as I have been looking at them for our conference stay in London this June and would love an aussie perspective! Does anyone else know them?
Happy travels!

hi Ozgirl........... that was last year!!!! We stayed at Tower Bridge apartments that were perfect for us. We walked across Tower Bridge each morning to start our day and there was a small supermarket/711 sort off, out side our door.

No worries Ozgirl, nothing wrong with too many wines after work. I'm stuck 'working' at home (wet blowy brisbane, thanks to Hamish!!!) On crutches for 3 months, so trying to get some planning done for next trip.....Oct USA.

I just checked my old report, we found the apartments through the http://www.refreshaccommodation.com/ to find our Tower Bridge Apartment. Another great thing was it was right next door to a Premier Inn, which we moved into for a day rate before our late pm flight. Had to be out of apartment by 11 but flight not till late, which gave us the full day in London + a nap and a shower before heading to the airport.

Heres a link to my report about our trip, you may find it interesting. Happy Planning.

Hi aussie dreamer, thanks for the reply! Poor you with hamish, although now downgraded I hear - wish we had some of that rain down South!
Where are you going in October? We did New England in October (the foliage season), New England Inns were superb!

Skimmed over your trip report, (will read when more time, looks like fun) we will only be spending the three nights in London at conference, 17 days prior in Ireland this time. Dolphin House apartments looking good at the moment, close to conference venue.

We have also visited Aberystwyth (which jumped out from your report!) and loved this part of the world.

Hi aussie dreamer, no trip report, our New England trip was before I discovered Fodors - not sure how I was brave enough to travel then really!
If you would like some comments on where we went, accommodation etc. email me at [email protected]
Have also done parts of the west coast that you mention.
You will love New England!

Know this is an 'old' thread, but the following might be added to Kay F's useful list -

Haven't stayed there myself, but fellow Australians recently stayed at and recommended the Fraser Place Queens Gate Apartments -

http://london-queensgate.frasershospitality.com/

Well located, but note (very) mixed reviews on Trip Advisor -
