Ways to get from Prague to Frankfurt?

In planning our trip to Prague and Germany, I somehow forgot to book air reservations from Prague to Frankfurt on Sept 13,2015. Airfare now for a one way ticket is $400 US for a one hour flight! Is there any other means of getting to Frankfurt that day? We are traveling with another couple (they have their flight booked) and need to arrive there by early evening. Please HELP!

The obvious option is by train.

Try booking it as a round trip with the inbound on September 13 and the return...whenever, because you won't use it. Often that is cheaper than a one-way.

You might even try a different return city to FRA instead of Prague - maybe Paris or something - because that may be an even lower fare than a simple round trip FRA-PRG.

I forgot to mention that the first two listed departures are a combination of bus and train.

Skyscanner.com shows r/t fares (per Andrew's suggestion) from $292 for an outbound flight that arrives FRA that day at 7:05p. If you want to arrive earlier, the fare will be over $300.

The bus/train combo standard fare is about 100 euros per person. A "saver fare" is 49 euros per person.

Smartwings (really operated by Czech Airlines) has a fare on 9/13 for $272 (Expedia) direct PRG-FRA, return (for example) 9/23 LGW-PRG (which you won't use) for that 5:45p-7:05p direct flight to FRA on 9/13.

Not sure how much longer the train + bus combo is. Because that would get you city center to city center, maybe that's nearly as fast but cheaper.

Would the train be a scenic ride for someone who has never been to Europe? That may be our best bet.

No that route is not really scenic - just getting from one place to another.

I wouldn't get too excited about Skyscanner fares until you try to get them. They aren't quoting the airlines, but places like Expedia, and they also may be old--they may change them when you actually look for such a price. Smartwings doesn't have any fares that cheap at this late date, it is around $400 one way and not much different (a little more) RT.

This is what happens when you actually try to get Skyscanners fare (which is only $172 one way) on Expedia.
<<Your ticket price changed from $171.60 to $415.60. >>

the return fare: <<Your ticket price changed from $276.90 to $520.90.>>

If you go directly to Lufthansa, the fare is quoted in CZK and converts to $301 r/t for a Prague-FRA flight on Sunday, Sept. 13, departing at 10:35a, arriving 11:45a. Fees and taxes included and one piece of checked luggage.

Skyscanner shows the same flight, same fare (quoted in USD), and you're directed to the Lufthansa website.
