WATERPROOF JACKETS??

Any thoughts on waterproof jackets? Tired of umbrellas and jackets that leak--don't mean a parka, but spring storms can be a real mess without proper attire. Gortex comes to mind. Ideas?

I can't travel anywhere without my Marmot rain coat, but my wife gripes that it makes me look like a youngster.
completely waterproof, lightweight, solid enough to ski or hike in.

Love my Gortex from Lands End. Keeps me dry, but light enough to layer a sweater or another jacket underneath. Was perfect for the Irish rains.

I use Columbia gear year round and love it. Breathes well but keeps wind, rain out.

Good luck in your quest.

Gortex is desirable if you are looking for a serious waterproof jacket. I use one in cold weather but don't like the rustling noise. In mild weather I use jackets made out of Microfibre and other newer waterresistant breathable hightech materials. They pack better than the Gortex.

I'd suggest you give a look at cabelas.com for a selection which includes Columbia, Gore-Tex, Helly Hansen and the house brands.

Check out H2Off rainwear at LLBean. Totally waterproof, styles with hoods, isn't noisy like goretex.

"Breathes" is the most important word here. I bought a Columbia jacket and can't use it unless it's raining or very chilly. I wore a yellow rain parka that scared children but was light, cheap and useful.

Take a look at www.rei.com
They have an unbelievable selection of rain gear.
