In response to Jed's question -- we flew from Naples to the US last weekend with a transfer at Charles de Gaulle. I purchased a bottle of water in Naples after going through security. Completely forgot about it when we got to CDG, and had to go through security again. (In contrast to the US, there were no signs, and no officials barking out reminders about what you could and couldn't carry). They found it through the x-ray, which meant they also had to stop and search the rest of my carry-on, according to their protocol. (And of course, I had to throw the water out). This was all done with remarkable politness and speed, I must say, but the security lines were empty when we were there -- I imagine at a more crowded time, it could cause more delay.

The screening devices detect nothing that they didn't detect before. Your screener MAY detect liquids, but then again. On my last flight I had the little baggie, but I forgot a gel lipgloss and a nail polish in my purse. Found them AFTER I returned home. Two trips thru the "vaunted" TSA checkpoints, not noticed at ALL! |

Like I said above, there are no technological advances that allow detection of liquids through x-ray-that is an incorrect statement. AND, the new EU screening regulations went into effect today, to conform to the USG regulations, however they are giving the airports 6 months to put them fully into effect, to allow the industry to adjust:

Now , I'm confused again, not hard to do, if I understand this, once we clear security we can buy as much drinking water as we like ? And as some want to know why we we want to bring water? 11 hrs on a flight at 8 ounces per hour , I don't know about some of you but the flight, jet lag are bad enough without being dehydrated as well.

I know that traveling from the US you can buy whatever amount of water after you clear security. However, I'm not clear about the new Nov. 6th rule when traveling to the States from the EU or within the EU if water is allowed or just in restrictive amounts after you clear security.

We recently flew from Venice to the US. You could not bring bottled water which was purchased after going through security.
