jamikins - "The passenger is on the curb" was more of a calm mantra which we recited together pretty much any time we switched from one road to another, while "Edge alert" was usually said in a tone of thinly disguised panic, accompanied by the tight gripping of car door and phantom braking movements

Thank you for posting this, I remember when you were asking about places to stay near Brockworth - I suggested Painswick I think. I didn't know you could stay in Colesbourne.
I live not far from Brockworth - I filled up my car at the Shell garage there on Sunday! Go up the hill behind Brockworth and the Air Balloon (that's Witcombe Hill, not Coopers Hill), then go about 7 miles along the lanes on the top, back towards Cirencester!
I'm glad to read you all had a good time, and were safe on the roads as well!

Hi Julie,
Yes, I did look into Painswick and then came across the Colesbourne, which looked nice...and it worked out beauifully. We just loved the Cotswolds!
Yes, I apologize if we cause havoc on the roads for a few days, I totally accept responsibility Luckily everyone was safe and sound in the end!

Hi Jamikins
I liked reading your report. I think the area your Dad came from would be BRADFORD east Manchester. There used to be a coal pit there and the huge gas holder is still there near to Sport City where the Commonwealth Games were held and where Manchester City Football Club play. Grey Mare LANE used to be the main road through Bradford to Miles Platting.
The IRA bomb really only affected the south end of Market Street where Marks and Spencer is. The rest of the redevelopment has just replaced fairly grotty old buildings. Fortunately the demolition of some lovely Victorian buildings was stopped in the 1960s by the efforts of The Victorian Society. A tour of Manchester Town Hall is always a treat for fans of Victorian architecture.
