Was I in Positano???
I just returned from Italy and one strange experience was when I returned to Positano. It wasn't the Positano I thought I had seen last trip. That trip, I had taken a 3-day bus tour from Rome to the Amalfi Coast, basing in Sorrento. One day the bus went up, up, up the road and stopped at a cafe at the top, where we could get off and eat or shop. I have a photo someone took of me sipping coffee and looking over an incredible view of the bay. When I asked the driver what this incredible place was, he said "Positano." This trip, my friend and I took the boat to Positano. I proceeded to climb up, up, up and got pretty high. Then I saw a staircase going higher. I saw a German man coming down and asked him if the top of Positano was there. He said No, Positano is down. Where I was pointing was something like Montepertuso. I asked where the centro of Positano was and he pointed down as well. I'm curious if anyone has visited Montepertuso and whether there is a cafe high at the top to stop at and view the bay far below? I gave up, being by that time sun-burned, winded and discouraged. So for me, Positano was rather a disappointment. I'm very glad we had booked 2 days in Ravello and I was able to savor the view that way. But remain curious about where the heck I was the first time?!
