warsaw to krakow

We may need to travel between Warsaw and Krakow or vice versa. I looked at www.bahn.de website and it looks like there is a possibility to leave from the Warsaw train station. I don't know if I would do that in case my flight was late so I'd probably spend the night in Warsaw. How do I know which station to choose for both Warsaw and for Krakow?

The trip takes about 3 hours by train. You probably want to go from one central station to the other: Warsaw Centralna to Krakow Glowny.

Yes as Doug says - trains leave hourly from Warsaw Centralina to Krakaow Glowny, the main stations in each city and take about 3 hours and are direct (but not non stop). Just buy that ticket in Warsaw - never a problem getting on trains like that.

That's a very popular train so I would get a seat reservation so you don't have to look for a space. Lots of business travelers.

Actually I think that I can fly into Krakow with American. When I look at the train schedule it does not look like I can book any trips at this time. When am I able to book train tickets? I will also take the train several other times on this trip.

Buy the train tickets when you get to Krakow. The train station is an easy 10 - 15 minute walk from the main square. Book all your tickets for Poland travel when you arrive. I was advised by the Krakow TI not to book Polish train tickets ahead.

Tickets are not expensive, even first class with reserved seats. Krakow to Warsaw was 282PLN plus 25PLN seat reservation for 2 people in first class. That's 51USD per person.

What are you other train trips - if in Austria and Eastern Europe then the European East Railpass may be a great option - can hop just about any train anytime -just show up and you can also make optional seat reservations if wanted to as adrienne advises. Or if taking several trains in western Europe look into a Eurail Select Pass - that one is only in first class if over 25 but, IME especially in Eatern Europe first class is significantly more relaxed than second class - much less likely to be full and indeed I have always found empty seats in first class by just boarding. Indeed a first class European East Pass could be, if traveling enough, cheaper in first class that a collection of second class tickets.

Great sources for train travel in Europe and passes and online discounts, if available, check out these fab IMO sites - www.seat61.com; www.budgeteuropetravel.com and www.ricksteves.com. With a pass you get off the plane and head for the train and hop on the next hourly one.
