Hi. I'm travelling to Poland on the 30th of Nov and i'll stay from 900am till afternoon in Warsaw. Can anybody tell me what to see and how to get around? Do u know any tourist office that offer one day touring?

Just a couple of hours? That isn't much time, but I'm sure somebody will share their ideas. Of course you can see the Palace and Old Town Square, maybe ghetto uprising monument, etc. And you can get around with public transporation.

Please, search: Warsaw, Poland. I often used the English cities flyers. "If you have one hour you can do this." Contact, Orbis on Marszalkowska 142, for private tours. You could start at 'Old Town', walk along Nowy Swiat (Krakowskie Predmiescie) then visit the Palace of Culture and Science. Another suggestion. Use guide books, assemble the sights you want to see, A concierge at say, the Marriott, can get you a taxi with a driver who can take you about. Are you arriving by air? How are you leaving?

I'm arriving by air at terminal 1 and i'm leaving for the domestic terminal. Are these terminals far away betwwen them? Is the airport far from the city? Is it safe to tour on my own? I've plenty of time, from morning till night. Can you give me a phone number or an e-mail address of Orbis? Any other information will be appreciated.

My husband and I spent about 5 hours touring downtown Warsaw, similar to what you are thinking about. We arrived at the airport in the morning after our overnight flight from Chicago, met friends from the University and then left in the late afternoon to take a train to Krakow.

If no one else has any suggestions, it would be easy to take a taxi from the airport to Old Town. I would feel very safe doing so, even as a woman on my own.

As suggested by one poster above, we toured the Palace and Old Town - definately worth seeing. We have traveled in Poland three times now, and don't speak Polish. It hasn't been a problem in the major cities.

Because we were with friends in Warsaw, I don't have any tour guide advice. However, maybe this site would be helpful. It is an official tourism site for Warsaw sponsored by the Polish government:

There are many restaurants lining the central square for lunch.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. "The Palace" I referred to is the Royal Castle, Plac Zamkowy

and the "Old Town Central Square" is Rynek Starego Miasta. These places are all easy walking within a few blocks of each other.

There are many beautiful palaces in and near Warsaw, but for just a few hours, the locations I've described gave a wonderful sense of the city and may tempt you to return. (We did!)

<Is it safe to tour on my own?>

I did quite a bit of walking around Warsaw with my 70-year-old mother and felt very comfortable.

I mapped out a walking tour on my own using a couple of guide books and a good map. In 6-7 hours of free time, we were able to see the Palace of Culture and Science, Saxon Gardens, and tomb of the unknown soldier/Piłsudski Square, and spend a few hours in old town. There is a history museum on the old town market square (Rynek Starego Miasta) that is interesting and has a documentary film about the destruction of Warsaw during the war. The Royal Castle was closed the day we had free time in Warsaw, otherwise that would have taken some more time. We also walked down the Novy Swiat/Royal Way and to (and through) Łazienki Park, which I enjoyed - but we were there in the summer.

I recall it taking about 20 minutes to get into the city center from the airport, but that was on a Sunday.

I don't know if you can check baggage at Chopin. If not check it at Marrott Hotel. Hotels offer bus servives, Airporter bus will take you to Marriott. Local service is also available. Days are short, best again, hire driver and taxi at Marriott.
