WARNING etc...

Some how I can't post to the WARNING... EUROPE post so I'm placing my comments here:)
------
I see Ursula is living up to her screen "handle":) I hope she will reconsider. I've met Art at a Fodors' gathering -- he's a really nice and interesting guy:)
Isn't that just so weird, Sally? Sometimes there is a really interesting thread, I try to reply, and I am shut out. No reply box. Seems to only happen on threads where the thread is a real doozie or I have some real travel advice to offer.

Gerry May 2nd, 2001 02:31 PM

Suddenly posts seem to be vanishing and then later re-appearing all over the place. Not just controversial ones but even totally innocent ones. Very strange!

s.fowler May 2nd, 2001 04:20 PM

Perhaps......... there is a GHOST in the machine?? [only Sting fans need apply:)]

Judy May 2nd, 2001 04:42 PM

Gremlins! The Gremlins have been watered, and now they are EVIL.
I guess Big brother was watching, now we are really in for it! Judy ;-)

S. Fowler:

Well, I am sorry but it's true: I do not care for beer that much and I will be very in September.
But I would love to go to Munich, no question. It's not that far.
... and did I say anything that Art was not a really nice and interesting guy?? ;-)

Ursula May 2nd, 2001 10:43 PM

.. I meant to write: ".. very BUSY in September."

And by the way, WHY should I meet somebody who says "DO NOT GO TO EUROPE?"
and who thinks one can get anything for a chocolate bar or a pair of silk stockings? ;-)

s.fowler May 3rd, 2001 02:12 AM

Glad you made it over here Ursula. I was mostly pulling your leg:) And Art was joking. [But you knew that:)]

Ursula May 3rd, 2001 02:20 AM

Sally (that's your firs name, right?)

As a matter of fact, it's not such a bad idea to make a fodorite's get together somewhere else than in the US or Paris!
It COULD be in Munich, despite the beer!
Have a great day! ;-)

s.fowler May 3rd, 2001 02:44 AM

Yes it is Sally. And yes it is a good idea to have a fodors' gathering someplace other than Paris. [And I don't like beer either! Must be all the "rolling rock" I drank during graduate school:)]

Ursula May 3rd, 2001 02:48 AM

So, Sally, any idea how to fix such a meeting. Maybe Art could organize that, don't you think so? I would even go to Munich. I could still drink a hot chocolate... or a glass of champagne!
Let's see, whether he turns up with a good idea besides the Octoberfest!

s.fowler May 3rd, 2001 06:18 AM

Well we would need to know his itinerary and what places he was going that might be central for such a meeting. Too bad we can't just "mail this thread to a friend" anymore so he would be sure to see this!

Ursula May 3rd, 2001 06:23 AM

Sally: Maybe he is already warming up the benches for the Octoberfest in Munich! ;-)

Ursula May 3rd, 2001 06:44 AM

Sally: I just discover that you topped a thread for me. Thanks. No interest at all about going to Poland and Romania, sorry.
We'll be going to Djerba Island, South Tunisia, Northern Africa, in October. Just sun, fun and (almost) nothing to do! And I definitely cannot go to Munich when they are scheduled to be there!

x May 3rd, 2001 08:24 AM

why don't you two just email each other directly?

Art May 3rd, 2001 08:58 AM

WOW, I go to sleep and look at all of the activity. Paige and her husband live in Munich. Maybe we could have a little fodors GTG there.

Gerry May 3rd, 2001 10:17 AM

We changed planes to and from Rome at the Munich airport. Does that count for going to Munich? I wanted to do a stop-over but Lufthansa wanted to charge me $800 more for that "privilege". The airport was nice. About every 3 minutes they wanted to see your passport and ran it through an infrared machine to see if it was legit. My wife suggested that they ought to just put a tatoo on our forehead. Hmm... She thought the Germans were a little uptight.(Maybe suffering from a beer deficiency.) In Rome and San Francisco they didn't seem to care if you had a passport or not as long as you didn't have any meat(SF). In Munich, this seemed to really aggrevate the French travelers. They were getting very loud and belligerent.( And you thought only American tourists acted that way.) Something about all of the EU follows the rules, except Germany, which gets to make its own rules.
Ursula: I would go visit Munich. Its only a few hours from where you are. You don't have to drink beer there to enjoy yourself. I had to quit drinking years ago(it was interfering with my travel among other things), but I still want to go back to Munich. I loved it back when I could drink beer but think I still could enjoy it. By contrast, I found Zurich pretty but very dull. No offense. I'd be willing to try Zurich again too.
Don't forget to bring you "papers".

Gerry
Ursula May 4th, 2001 01:59 AM

Gerry: Thanks for reminding me to bring the "papers". I always take them and it works, you know.
We are here to give good advice, aren't we? ;-)
