Warm Places in Europe in Feb/March

Hope you are all well. I am planning a trip to London in the last week of February first week of March. I am thinking of also going somewhere else as well... are there any warmer places that I can travel to? please help.

Define "warm"? If you mean "lie on the beach" then it's Canary Islands or Madeira.

I suggest Southern France. We were there last year in late February and early March. First we were in Provence, in and around Marseilles, Avignon and Aix.

Then we spent two days in Nice. Had a nice lunch outdoors on the beach. Lots of people relaxing in chairs on the beach having lunch and drinks. I don't think anyone was in the water. Nice was warmer than the Marseilles/Avignon/Aix area.

I think the Andalucía region of Spain would be warm, too, but have not actually been there yet.

the chances for warm weather are usually higher than elsewhere, but rain and cold winds cannot be excluded neither.
Consult the weather forecast after your arrival in London and book then; flights to the destinations mentioned above ar seldom fully booked in February.

For beach holidays, the Canary Islands are the only solution, although the seawater will not be very warm there neither.

Seawater in the Canaries was warm enough for swimming when we have been in February. It is a popular destination for Europeans looking for some warmth in the early school holidays so booking a flight on arrival and finding accommodation could be problematic, depending on the island.

What is your definition of "culture?" Every rabbit hole in Europe has culture galore.

museums, galleries, articture, food...

Consider Portugal. I am in Lisbon (well, actually in Belém on Lisbon's outskirts by the river) right now, it is not "warm" but barely chilly. They never get snow here. When the wind springs up and the clouds move in (which seems to change every twenty minutes) a light sweater and the windbreaker are fine. Culture - loads of it, including the Centro Cultural de Belém which we just discovered, with great modern art and a wonderful concert hall where we heard an opera production last night. Palacio Nacional de Ajuda is a mindblower, as is the Gulbenkian. Castelo S. Jorge, the presidential palace in Belém (only open on Saturdays, check for tour times). And on and on. Plus day-trip targets galore.

Anywhere is warm in Europe, as long as you're in a heated hotel room and tucked in your bed.

No beach weather on the continent that time of year. But there is good touring weather (mostly - no one can predict rain) in southern Spain and Sicily.

Keep going south - how about Malta or Sicily?

More about PT - went from Belém by train to Cascais today and was amazed by the warmth. Low 20s, downright toasty where there was no breeze, and they tell me it can be like that anytime in winter. Stopped off in Estoril where the beach is only a few steps from the train stop - I felt the water and, no kidding, would have gone in for a quick dip, but had no swimwear with me.

No wonder there are all these expats from colder climes buying up the prime real estate1

what is the closest to london? would i fly or take the train?

There are a great many airlines flying to a great many cities and towns all over Europe, some of which you probably have never heard of. Some of those flights can be dirt cheap, some become less cheap when you have luggage...

Check out the "where we fly" network maps and listings of the airlines like ryanair, easyjet, vueling, airberlin, germanwings, and many more.

Look at www.skyscanner.net, www.whichbudget.com, www.itasoftware.com, www.kayak.com and others.

When curious about a specific airport, google it and look at the listing of incoming flights.

For trains, look at www.seat61.com, the guy who runs it shares all there is to know about train travel.

try rome2rio.com for ideas on how to get to wherever you want to go. A train from London to southern Europe will take quite some time. There are plenty of cheap flights; start from there. What airport is closest to you, and where can you fly to from there.

As Necker says, there are no guarantees. Don't take the word of someone who has spent a few weeks in a place and happened to find nice weather.

Where I live in Italy, it rarely snows. It sometimes goes below freezing overnight, but almost never stays there when the sun is up. In February and March, the daffodils and the fruit trees are blooming. However, you can still get a solid week of rainy, foggy, windy, chilly weather right up until June. This past May, it was warmer in the American Midwest, where my daughter lives, than here in Italy. I remember Skyping my daughter who was wearing a sundress, while I was bundled up in a wool sweater.

Last week we had weather in the 20s (high 60s Fahrenheith). This week the temperatures are hovering just above 0 (low 30s F).

Does it have to be Europe? Why not go to southern Morocco?
