Warm Days in Copenhagen

Very nice trip report. Beautiful pictures.

I will be in the Copenhagen/Malmö area for a couple of days at the end of June, so it was interesting to see how much can actually be done in a short time.

I'm probably going to skip the insides of most of the castles. I think I've seen too many castles in other countries on other trips and after a time it all becomes a blur of old paintings and furniture.

And yes, hotel prices in Copenhagen are a bit high. After some careful calculations I realized that staying in Malmö and commuting over the bridge by train would actually be cheaper (including train tickets) than staying in Copenhagen. So, that's what I'm doing.

Since I'm probably not going inside all those castles and museums (maybe a couple, but certainly not more than two of each) I don't think the Copenhagen Card will be worth the cost for me. But I'll probably wait and decide on that until i see how much money I have left after the first part of my trip.

Does that map app work without Internet connection?

What a pity to stay in Malmö. It's not something I would do to save a few $$$. You are ok with the extra time for border controls and the end of June ie getting to peak vacation season? With hotels like Wakeup, Cabinn etc, I would have thought you could find less expensive options.

Odin: I couldn't find a cheap (and reasonably central) place for the days I wanted. Not if I wanted a private room. The prices in Copenhagen were close to double compared to Malmö. And I'm not quite cheap enough to share a hostel dorm again.

Yes, the border controls will be irritating. I'll have to make sure I don't need to cross the bridge at "rush hour". And if it gets irritating enough I'll stay on the Swedish side and explore there after the first day.

Wonderful trip report, so well written and packed with useful information, personal anecdotes and of course, your lovely pictures. Thank you !

I am more eager than ever now to get to Copenhagen and visit my friends there (and in nearby Stockholm) which will happen next year.

Thank you anyegr. Yes, the map app works offline so no data roaming charges! If you download the app for free, you are limited to a couple of maps. But it works fine. If you pay for the app (few dollars I think) you can have unlimited download of maps. When you pin sites of interest, it creates a list for you. You can delete the map to save space on your phone but the list remains. Then at a future time if you re-download the map, you can see all your pinned sites! I've been using this app for 5 or 6 years and its my lifeline when I travel!

What a lovely trip report. I loved Copenhagen, when I visited it in 2010. Where did you stay? We stayed a bit far from the center, but close to the metro, Crowne Plaza Towers Copenhagen, https://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Re...n_Zealand.html

I would love to go back and stay closer to the center this time. Tivoli is just so beautiful.
