Warm and waterproof walking boots advice?
Am going to be in Germany in mid-December.

What would be a good, warm, comfy, walking boot brand?

I've heard of brands: Sorel, Baffin, Kamik, Toe Warmers.

any recommmendations?

Nancy

I've had great luck with my Ecco boots. Comfortable for hours of walking and the leather is thick. I slip them over a pair of wool socks and have never had cold or wet feet.

I find Sorel of Canada to be the best. Don't buy the "duck boots". They keep out snow and rain just fine, but aren't as warm as Sorels. But unless you're hiking through the mountain snow, you won't need $200 boots. Drink lots of glühwein and Gulaschsuppe and you'll stay plenty warm. Actually, heavy boots are a disadvantage if you're touring castles or old buildings since they tend to tire you out and are bigger than your regular feet. Some of those narrow twisting staircases were downright dangerous with big klunkers on.

C; I'm thinking of buying a pair of Ecco boots for my trip to Paris next month. Do yours have a heel? I'm use to wearing a heel but still want them to be cushioned. What do you think?

Wendy - My latest pair of Ecco's have a stacked heel of around 1-1/2 inches. I find that I'm more comfortable walking in atleast a small heel vs. flat boots. They are holding up very well, depsite all the use I put them through.

Dear Wendy: My mother can afford to wear Jimmy Choo or Robert Clergerie, but she swears by her Ecco shoes. She has terrible foot problems and Ecco shoes seem one of the few brands that give her any relief. Mephisto is another brand. Happy walking.

Nancy -

I will be in Germany in late December and found some great boots in a catalogue called Early Winters www.earlywinters.com. They have a variety of styles and options, mostly made in Canada.

John, Tell your mom anytime she wants to donate some of her Jimmy Choo's to the Wendy shoe fund feel free!!! I'm a size 7! haha!

Thanks for the response c. I'm looking at the "Flamenco Mid boot". Demi boots are hot now anyway, might as well use that as an excuse!! ;)

Nancy,
My husband and I both have Rockport walking boots - which are totally waterproof and extremely comfortable to wear.
