Wardrobe question: Rome / Paris in the fall.

We are planning 6 nights Rome / 7 nights Paris in the fall. Our work schedules allow two options: 9/23-10/6 OR 10/14-10/27.

We are two ladies who pack light. We're wondering if we might encounter very different weather in the two cities if we opt for Sept. in Rome: still warm in Rome, cold in Paris? That would complicate our packing. (We've been to Paris in mid-October and it was cold.)

Can you guys help me evaluate this? I know you're not weathermen. But we wonder if there is any "plus" to Rome in mid-September vs. October? If not, we'll probably choose the later dates and pack all winter clothes.

At the later time it will of course be cooler and, based on trips to Italy in late October, it will probably be rainier. I would choose the earlier time and go for layers. Perhaps go to Paris first and Rome second because Rome will be warmer later.

I traveled to Paris on almost those exact dates in late September/early October in 2002. The weather in Paris was fabulous- high 60s/low 70s and virtually no rain. Can't speak to Rome's weather as I've never been.

I agree with kvadragon. I was in Paris the last week in Sept in both 2002 and 2003 and both times it was in the high 60's to mid 70's with almost no rain. In both cases, the last day was the warmest!

I was in Rome and Paris about that 09/23 time frame several years ago. We had wonderful 70 degree weather in Paris but it was still very hot and humid in Rome. We had no rain in either city but we were only a couple of days in each city. I know the weather can be quite changeable in Paris...not as familiar with Rome. Don't forget your umbrella.

Airfares might be less expensive in Oct.!

We were in Rome on Oct 8-10 last year, and it was fabulous weather - just warm enough for short sleeves during the day, and everyone was out in the evenings, late into the night.

Another factor to consider is the amount of daylight - on the later of your dates, the sun will set earlier than on the earlier dates.

Actually, this is making me more inclined toward the later dates. First, we're early risers & we love the night-lit monuments - so early darkness doesn't bother us a bit. And grandmere points out that airfares may have gone down! How could I forget that one?! We might even get lucky and save a little on the (outrageously high) hotel rates!

Lastly, it gives the world a little longer to do us the favor of shoring up the $$$!! :)

Whatever you pack - check it for malfunction first!

Well. I don't even want to think about that! LOL!
