Want to visit Tarragona

I'm interested in seeing Tarragona but I'm not certain the best way to travel from Barcelona in October/November. Car rentals are nearly all standard transmission, small, expensive and I've never driven the Spanish roadways. Is there local train service between Sitges and Tarragona, as there is to Barcelona? And, how available are local Taxis to see outlying properties near Tarragona? Are weekdays better than weekends off-season? Thanks for the help.

I took the train from Barcelona to Salou in May. Salou is just a a few miles past Tarragona. The train price was about 5E. The train ride from Barcelona was a little over an hour. There are busses that run between Tarragona and Cambrils which is further down the coast than Salou. In May the busses ran about every half hour and I think cost about $3-4 E for the longest route which would be Tarragona to Cambrils. Shorter routes were about 1.6E. Taxis were available at the stations and hotels. My daughter and I walked on the beach from Salou to Cambrils.

Be aware that the ruins in town - the amphitheater & museum(?) close 2PM Sunday & don't reopen until Tuesday. It is also hard to find a restaurant open downtown on Sunday nights. Mind you, we were there off-season in April several years ago. We stayed at the Royal Tarraco that looms over the ruins. Great view! But I couldn't get in to walk them.
