Want to meet the locals? Try libraries

Very few folks here talk about hitting up the library as an option when planning a European vacation but IMO more should - especially those who want to meet and mix with the locals - something that is almost assured to happen if you drop into one of the AA meetings or book groups scheduled.

What is the nexus between AA meetings and bars?

In the years before tablets and wifi I was a regular at libraries wherever I went, to check email, though it never occurred to me to check the scheduled meet-ups. A good idea. I still have souvenirs of my visits, a stack of UK library cards, joining being necessary at many for using the computers.

I do, however, still stop into libraries just to see them (busman's holiday, or buswoman's?) and have some favorites, the English language library in Bangkok being at the top of the list, much more fun than the American Library in Paris, at least architecturally speaking.

What is the nexus between AA meetings and bars?

One day I suddenly realized that I had not had a beer in over a month. Another time I drank 6 liters in a day.

You can be Belgian.
However we do (did) our 24 pintes in one evening. That might have ended in the morning but strangely I have less recollection of the endings of these evenings.
Besides ou then meet people in the toilets due to the frequency of pit stops.
