Want (Quiet) Montparnesse Hotel Room
 

I'm returning to Paris for three days in late December, my first visit in more than a decade. If possible, I'd like to stay in Montparnesse, an area I like and know. I stayed in Le Meridien on Rue de Commandant my last trip. I don't want to pay $300 or more for a room, which I believe is what it now costs at Le Meridien; nor was the hotel that great. Anyway, can anyone recommend a hotel in Montparnesse in the $225-250 range? I really don't know the Paris hotel scene. Will I derive more bang for my dollar in another location than Montparnesse? Would like a relatively quiet hotel, even if it isn't in Montparnesse. Any suggestions in Montparnesse, my first choice, or elsewhere? I might also go for a B & B, but I'd need staff, or an elevator, to help me with my not-so-heavy bag. (Have bad back, and had two hernias, and can't carry my suitcase up and down stairs, as otherwise I'd do so; not a question of being lazy or spoiled. Thanks in advance and best for the holidays.

Back in 2001, we stayed at the Bretange Montparnasse and loved it. It is a Best Western. The location was nice and quiet, with a good restaurant across the street and a good boulangerie about a block away. The hotel is about 2 or 3 blocks from the Pernety station, which got us everywhere we wanted to go. The hotel has been renovated since our stay. The staff were very nice and I would not hesitate to stay there at all.

We have stayed at Hotel Raspail on the corner of Montparnasse and Raspail on 2 different trips. It's a 3 star, not the most luxurious, but what a wonderful staff and location.

There are so many wonderful restaurants close by, Luxemborg Gardens a few blocks away.

On our trips lately we choose to stay closer to the Seine, but we have a photo hanging in our home that was taken out of the window at the Raspail and it brings us many good memories.

Haven't stayed at these but they are all recently renovated (within 1-2 years) and winter pricing or internet special rates fit your range:

I always stay at the Hotel Aiglon in MOntparnasse, which is one of my favorite Parisian hotels:

It is much cheaper than you want, and a very nice 3* hotel. Go for the "club" double rooms which are fine for a single person. This is an excellent location being right across from the Raspail metro stop. As for quiet -- well, this hotel is on the corner of bd Raspail and Edgar Quinet, and Raspail is a busy street so there is street traffic. Ask for a room on bd Edgar Quinet which looks onto the cemetery, that's what I do and that's as quiet as you'll get -- the higher the floor the better in terms of street noise.

I don't know any hotel of that quality at a better rate elsewhere, and I've looked. At least not unless you go farther out or something. The hotel is a typical, small Parisian hotel of about 40-50 rooms.
