whew...i really dug myself in deep with this one...
Well, to start with the easiest, my screen name simply reflects the pronunciation of my surname whose spelling is nowhere near this, I've used it for years and the apparently obvious joke didn't occur to me until much later...but i like it anyway...
as for the budget, he really just has no idea how much these things cost or fluctuate. he saw a fare around xmas under $300 and is having a hard time grasping that fares to europe in the height of summer can get really ridiculous. i guess when he suggested the trip he thought fares would be around $300. (like i said, he don't travel much).
Soccer season ends in May or we'd be going to Italy, not France (both our favourite teams are Italian...fighting for second place now actually).
Baron luv, thanks for the offer but one thing at a time....
I feel kinda guilty now because it's really just that I've always planned our 'trips' and $2000 USD for 6 days anywhere is something neither of us is used to (you don't want to know what currency we're used to dealing with). I actually did find some decent deals for around $1200 each so maybe that will be okay.
I'm not big on hotels etc. I've stayed in the widest range of places and in Paris how much time do you spend in the room? But trying to buy everything separately makes no sense because it's cheaper to get flight + hotel than just flight alone, then hostel.
As for him not really wanting to go...it was his idea!! I love soccer and was all about the games and then he decided...well...since it should be a vacation, why don't we really go somewhere interesting? Like Europe? He wouldn't say that just to score some points for trying when all he really wants is to go to the soccer games (he's not that diabolical or subtle). So I have to assume he really wants to go and just has no idea how important a factor timing is.
Anyway, maybe we should really start that relationship thread. This has kind of gotten off the topic...but it's been fascinating...especially with contributions from people like John71cove.
