Wall Street Journal article on staying in convents and monasteries
The WSJ of Feb 14 has an article on page R9 titled "Heavenly Housing - Europe's convents and monasteries offer cost-conscious travelers simple and affordable lodging".

The article lists 4 books, 3 websites and 4 selections; one each in France, Switzerland, Rome and Massachusetts.

I have stayed in several monasteries in Italy and one in France, and I could not have asked for better quarters. I look forward to reading the books listed in the WSJ article.

If people reading the WSJ need advice on staying in convents, this is indeed an ominous sign for the stock market.

I'm sure many people stay in convents who could afford to stay elsewhere.

Some hospitals also offer lodgings in some wings. Willtravel, you are saying a truth. I know several people with above average incomes who stay at a hospital in Paris. No details but it must curtail your hours on the town.

The same issue of the WSJ on page R13 also had an essay titled "The Joys of Scrimping - Feeling anxious? Troubled? The frugal life can set you free".

One of the biggest myth's about people who might have a nice income is that they view every dollar they have as disposable income. Some people have the money they do because they are frugal, and still look for a great bargain such as a monasterie that might make for an interesting place to stay .

I used to work for a woman who was married to a Billionaire. Yes, a billionaire who is in the top 100 on the Forbes 400. He used to come by our office wearing an old Army fatigue jacket and jeans. After visiting some clients in Connecticut, I once dropped her off at the Avis location in Greenwich so that she and her husband would have a car for the weekend. She even rented a mid-size.
