I've done quite a bit of research on our upcoming (early October) trip to Croatia. The only topic I'm having trouble with is finding information on good walks and hikes. I'm looking for walks in the 3 to 7 mile range (we won't be scaling any mountains) in the Dubrovnik/Korcula/Hvar/Istria areas. If anyone has any information or can point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it.

P.S. I do have the R. Abraham "Walking in Croatia" book (it's ok). I've also contacted the Croatia and Dubrovnik Tourist Boards but they did not get back to me.

I did find some information, so I'll reply to my own post. The Map Shop www.themapshop.co.uk in the UK has 2 interesting titles which I just ordered. The first is "Landscapes of Croatia - Covering walks, car tours and picnic sites - Sunflower Guide (£10.99).

The second is The Mountains along the Croatian Coast (On foot & by car)" (14.95) - "Covering the entire length of the Adriatic coast and using full colour detailed maps this guide describes walks and car journeys through this beautiful but still relatively unspoilt mountain region. Dr Polzak is a local, experienced walker and mountaineer."
I've ordered these books, but have not seen them yet. When I get a look at them, I'll report back.

Croatia Bnd, my DH and I will also be in Croatia in October, the 2nd thru 19th. We also like to walk and hike so I will be looking forward to your post on those 2 books.

There were nice walking paths along the sea near Mali Losenj and the tourist office gave us a brochure of all of the hiking trails in the area.

HappyTrvlr - Thanks for the info. I was thinking that the tourist offices throughout Croatia would come through for us. Thanks for confirming that.

Hi there. We were in Croatia 2 years ago and did some stunning walks(on our own, not guided) on Korcula. Tourist office provided us with an excellent walking map and off we went. This website has some ideas http://www.korculainfo.com/walking-korcula/index.htm.

I received the 2 hiking books that I ordered from the Map Shop in the UK. As promised, I thought I would provide a brief review to others in the group who are interested in hiking along the coast of Croatia. To reiterate the 2 books are:

1) Landscapes of Croatia - Covering walks, car tours and picnic sites - Sunflower Guide by Sandra Bradwell(£10.99).

2) The Mountains along the Croatian Coast (On foot & by car) by Zeljko Polzak (14.95)

I’ve enjoyed reviewing both books, but considering the types of walks I want to do (3 to 7 mile rambles) in Croatia, I definitely prefer the Landscapes of Croatia book. I like how it blends the driving tours with the walks. For example, it describes the scenic drive from Dubrovnik to Orebic on the Peljesac Peninsula. Once in Orebic it describes 6 different driving itineraries you can embark on, each itinerary describes different walks you can stop and enjoy during your drive. The walking instructions seem descriptive enough (of course, I can’t be a true judge of this until I actually do a few of these walks). I like how the walking instructions not only give visual markers but time markers as well. “You should arrive at the old church in 55 minutes from the start”. The uncluttered, topographical maps look like they will be useful. Finally, the good quality pictures are quite enticing, giving you an idea of the landscape and views you will encounter. If you don't have a car I think the extensive bus system in Croatia will get you to many of these walks.

In my opinion, if you are a casual walker, interested in a good half to full day hike with a picnic, this is the book for you. On the other hand, if you’re a serious hiker you should consider getting the “Mountains along the Croatian Coast” by Polzak or the book by Rudolf Abraham, Walking in Croatia (Cicerone County Walking Series).
