Walking Tours Rome, Florence and Venice
Can anyone recommend any walking tours (companies) or doing self guided tours of these cities with headsets is it better?

I recommend a private guided tour of Ancient Rome...colosseum, Pantheon, Roman Forum, etc. Otherwise you're just looking at ruins and you won't know what they are. We enjoyed Francesca Caruso. She charges 40 euros per hour for your family or group. We had her for 3 hours which was perfect for us. Her e-mail is [email protected] Actually she has since married and might have changed her last name.

One other thing. From observing other people I noticed that using headsets tends to isolate you with the artwork, and prevents conversation among your family.

I DON'T recommend Roman Promenade tours. We booked them for the Colosseum, but they cancelled on us after we arrived at the Colosseum for the tour. There really wasn't any explanation given, either.

On this message board, the two most popular agencies for this in Rome are Enjoy Rome, and Context Rome

Enjoy Rome tours usually have larger groups than CR, are shorter, and are less expensive

Context Rome (formerly known as Scala Reale, search for that name on this message board and find universal praise)
tours are each about 3-4 hours, groups are 6 or fewer people, guides are art/history/architecture teachers and scholars who are also well versed in making their tours entertaining.
Their Forum/Colosseum tour and their Vatican tour are very highly praised.

I see that you've posted this before

Since you seem to be planning a trip to Italy, may I suggest that you plow through this superthread on all things Italy?
It may very well answer a lot of your general questions, and then you can narrow things down to specifics;tid=34443340
