Walking Tours
 

Im keen to take a walking tour in August, in Europe. As Im on my own, the self-guided trips arent appealing (Im not confident Id be able to read a map alone and navigate through a forest). I narrowed it down to Slovenia, but some of the walks in Triglav National Park on the tour Ive seen seem quite steep and are described as 'challenging'.
I had a look at Norway fjords walking trip instead - these seem a bit easier, but of course the holiday costs more due to prices in Norway. Ideally I didnt want to pay more than £1000 - Norway is £1250...quite a lot for 1 week not far from London (which is where I live).
I was in to Switzerland last year, and lived in France and Italy, so Id like to go somewhere new. Greece seemed nice, but might ot be too hot? For Sarinia or Corsica Id need to wait until October. The Picos/Asturias in northern Spain seem lovely, but again, quite difficult/steep walks.
Any suggestions? Im at the stage that if I dont book a walking trip soon, I may not go at all, and I am already taling myself out of it, telling myself I should save for a long-haul in winter (when its dark and horrid in Europe and I want to get away) and save my money.

One good source of location-specific advice about this is the Alternative Travel Group (www.atg-oxford.com)

Aimed at people who see no need to get unnecessarily uncomfortable, their holidays only take place in places, at times, when walking's not a near-nightmare. Their guided trips are pricey (the quality of the browsing, sluicing and overnighting is extremely high) and you don't want to do their self-guided walks.

But if, say, they're doing walks in the Tatras or Transylvania in mid-August, you can be pretty sure that slightly podgy, late middle-aged dwellers in Middle England have found walking temps in the Tatras in mid-August OK, and ATG's grading system is very reliable.

Find a location that suits, then google for someone doing it cheaper.
