I have read through all the posts about great shoes for walking all day long. I've since found my 'perfect shoe', but now I'd appreciate any advice regarding socks for the same purpose. I usually buy the econo-pack of your typical women's socks, and I'd like to get something that is a little more comfortable. Also, I'd like a couple pairs of socks that are quick drying so that I could wash them at the end of the day and *hopefully* wear them again the next day, or maybe every other day. Thanks for your advice!

I've had good luck with Gold Toe (Womens) Athletic Liner sock: 80% combed cotton, 19% stretch nylon and 1% spandex.

When traveling I wash them at night and they are dry in the morning. Another thing, they don't loose their shape.

Smartwool socks are the best - super comfortable and quick drying.

Socks are just as important as shoes as far as I'm concerned. Smartwool are great but not especially quick drying.

If not dry by morning they'd be dry by the next day though.

We have walked all over Europe ( and Morocco & Turkey) the last 20 months and we just looooove smart wool socks.

My husband and I have just one pair each and they are still like new. I could do an add for them. The BEST!

Go to a good sporting goods store and look at them for yourself.
I love smartwools, they are comfortable, dry quickly and easy to pack but I also bring along a another pair that that fits really tight along the arch and are well padded in heel - they are very comfortable too. They've lasted so long, I can't remember what brand they are.

It's a smart decision to buy a couple of new pairs of socks for travel. They really make a difference even if you'll be paying considerably more than you're used to.

One brand to avoid is - ex-officio. They are way too thin. (and their underwear takes longer to dry than they say.)

merino wool do not itch like ordinary wool. great fabric for hiking, running, walking.

You can read more on the smartwool process on the website, but I can attest that the socks are not scratchy in the least (and I normally cannot wear wool directly against my skin).

I'm also a big fan of Smartwool socks, however they're not as quick drying as socks that are made from Coolmax (or a similar fabric).

A previous poster suggested Gold Toe brand, and they may be comfortable, however in my experience, anything with that high percentage of cotton may not dry overnight.

I usually take 2 pair cashmere and 2 pair SmartWool. Then I always have a couple of dry pairs of socks.

Smart Wool, all the way, and for the ladies they have many fun/stylish wears. My wife wears the knee high ones all winter here in MN.

I love my smartwool socks. There are many different styles and they are so comfortable when you are wearing them all day walking!
