Walking shoes, help!
 

We are leaving in eight weeks and we both need walking shoes. What are your favorite walking shoes?

I assume you are going hiking in the Alps? If so, both you and your mother should have some high quality hiking shoes.

Pay the price for Ecco's. You'll love them.

I buy good running shoes, as they are more flexible than walking shoes; my personal preference are Nikes, but it all depends on your individual foot. (My husband can't wear Nikes at all). I can also highly recommend Clarks.

you need to go to the best shoe store where you live and try on shoes. People's feet are too different, and people use their feet to differently, to take advice over the internet. Go shopping soon so you can walk around in the shoes for the next 7 weeks.

I agree. My feet must be weird, because my size is extremely inconsistent across brands. I have a pair of Keens -- laceup shoes, not sandals -- that are extremely comfortable, but another pair of Keens that are torture. I have a pair of Clarks which I love, but wore out. Eccos don't fit my feet at all. Try them on!

I wore a pair of Keen Sydneys in Japan and for the first time in my life didn't have achy feet (and we walked EVERYWHERE!!). I bought a pair of Barcelonas next and love them, too. Free overnight delivery (and easy return) from Zappos.com!

I use my normal running shoes/sneakers (Nike or Brooks) for travel.

Ecco are horrible for me, they really make my knees hurt after a long day for some odd reason.

Whatever you choose get them ASAP so you can wear them around and make sure they are OK before your trip.

I love my Scarpas - they took me around Tuscany and the UK Lake District with ease, and great comfort for my feet!

Since 1983 I have been a faithful and happy customer of SAS shoes..
I just came back from a 5 week European trip and wore my SAS sandals all the times.I took 2 pairs with me one brown and the other navy blue.
I have feet's problems and I am pretty choosy on what I put on my feet.

Just have seen the podiatrist for Morton's Neuroma in both feet. Believe me I have every brand of shoe known..Ecco, Merrells,SAS, Naot, nike plus all the fashion brands!

He recommended New Balance so I've been wearing those for 3 days. And I will say that when I went back to him today I did not need another shot. He did recommend that I not buy them at a discount store like DSW, but rather go to a NB store and have them properly fitted.

I really did not want them because I assumed they'd all look like I was trying out for the Olympics, but they did have a few styles that looked rather "normal"...certainly not things of beauty but so far they are comfortable.

I went to LL Bean in Freeport Maine, but you may have something similar near you. Their shoe people are great.

I told them I was going to be walking all over Rome/Italy. The lady recommended the shoes she wore on her trip.

Where them as much as you can before you leave to break them in. And the beauty with LL Bean is that you can bring them back for any reason.

I didn't bring them back and I'm buying more.

I bought a pair of Keen's as well from her. She said you love em or hate em, no in between. They were fine for me.

I bought a pair of Keen's and the toe box was way too close for my fat big toe. I tried having them stretched, but they only stretched the width, not the depth of the toe box.

Any suggestions on how to enlarge the toe box depth-wise?

I can walk all day in Merrills and my feet never hurt.
