Walking on rue Mouffetard

If I walk from St Etienne du Mont along rue Mouffetard to St Médard, will I be going uphill or downhill?

Perhaps a silly question, but I am taking an elderly relative to Paris and I am trying to make the walking as easy as possible for her.

Thanks for your help!!

You'll be going downhill. It's a nice walk. If you can manage it try to walk down rue Monge as well.

Thanks so much, I knew I'd get a straight answer here. Is rue Monge a market street as well?

I'm not positive, but I think it may be slightly uphill first before you then go downhill. I know that in general you go uphill before downhill if you are walking from, say, rue des Ecoles. I believe the peak elevation is around where the Pantheon is. That is about right next to St Etienne, so I think it would be mainly flat or downhill from there. However, you will have to get to St Etienne first, and it depends how you will get there. I think it is flatter coming from around Luxembourg gardens to St Etienne than from the north.

Rue Monge is just a main street in that area, and has various kinds of businesses and shops on it, as well as other buildings. It is not a real packed concentrated pedestrian market street like Mouffetard or rue de Buci, though, nor that small.

Thank you both for your information. Another good website to add to my Paris favorites!

Place Monge does have a very good street market several days a week, including Sunday.

Yes, it's a slight uphill walk if you are coming up from rue des Ecoles. For me it's slight because where I live the hills are muce steeper. There is a market on rue Monge, but it's not large.
