Walking maps for Amsterdam
Does anyone know of any good websites for walking in Amsterdam. Not so much for walking tours but getting from one location to another.
Thanks |

mike, hit any hotel lobby and you will find the standard city map that will get you around, you will see travelers on the streets EVERYWHERE trying to figure out where they are and how to get where they need to go, somewhat confusing, but you really can't go wrong, there is fun in any direction.

If I want to map a specific walking route,ie. between two points, I use:
www.mappy.com and select the 'Pedestrian' option. |
Thanks for all the responces. I mostly wanted to use it to get from the train station to my hotel. The hotel Abba said it is about a 25 minute walk. might end up taking the tram anyway, but we like to walk.

Walking is by far the funnest way to get around A.
Take a small compass with you - the canals and hence the streets keep curving around until they form an almost perfect horseshoe - on an overcast day or at night you can be sooo off in your estimation about which way you should be heading - a quick look at the compass before you look at the map will set you straight. Your local department store will have them in the sporting section - needn't be anything fancy. I got this off some poster on another board, and I'm glad I did, saved us a lot of time last trip. WK |
I got a map of amsterdam for our upcoming trip. They are called "insideout amsterdam" and are published by rand mcnally. The maps have a built in compass so that would cover wally's suggestion also. They are put out for different cities and we use them and streewise maps also when traveling. hope this helps, itsv

Tripbuilder guide books have a fold out map, are very thin and will fit in a purse/backpack/jacketpocket. Not only do they have a fold out map, but they give you a paragraph summary of the main attractions, historical sites, shopping, ect. and they are all plotted on the map for you.
