Walking from Bern to Geneve
 

Hey all!

I want to travel - by foot, maybe also hitch-hiking, from Bern to Geneve.

I wanted to know whether you think that it is possible to make this trip, mostly by foot, in 9-10 days, sleeping outside, with 100-150 EUR in my pocket (buying food from supermarkets for cheap self-made meals)

And is it safe? We are two guys that plan to do it.

Anyone want to join us?

We plan to do it in about 5/9 - 13/9, or something similar.

Any tips? Any suggestions?

What about walking from campground to campground and packing a little tent with you? You'll still be able to take showers.

DRS just filmed a project on prehistoric Pfahlbauern or lake dwellers (pile dwellers). One task given was for two men to walk from Engadine to Canton Thurgau as they would have during the pile dweller times. They had no problems except for the weather and blisters.

And speaking of weather, that could be a problem, which is why I would recommend camping. If you do choose to sleep in open spaces, do it in the countryside in a beautiful field or forest, away from dogs and farmers.

And don't steal anything. The Swiss police have caught gangs of thieves who roam the countryside, stealing from homes and sleeping in the woods. Thankfully, it doesn't happen too often.

You may find the police interested in you if you try to sleep in public places and have no means of support.

Suggest you collect some more money and check out hostels and/or campgrounds - even if you do want to walk/hitch.

(And is hitching even legal in Switzerland? It's illegal many places in the US - never mind the obvious dangers.)

Hitchhiking is not illegal.
