Walkable Belfast?
Hi. I was hoping I could get some input from some of you who know Belfast. My family and I will only be there for one day. It looks like it's fairly walkable. But if we wanted to go to Belfast Castle, Ulster Museum or the Botanic Gardens, should we use train, bus or taxi? There will be 4 of us (2 teens).
Thanks for any help! |
Centre of the city is very easy to walk but if you want to travel to specific areas as you mentioned you would need to take transport.
Other option are Black Taxi Tours. Check out www.gotobelfast.com |
The Ulster Museum and Botanic Gardens are about a mile from the city centre, so you can walk; there are also buses, and taxis are plentiful - in the evening, most vehicles in Belfast seem to be taxis.

Hi M,
Botanic gardens and the Ulster Museum are next door to each other in the South of the city. Belfast Castle is in the North of the City. You can walk from the city centre to the musuem and gardens (about 20 mins). The Castle is not really walkable from the city centre but you can get a bus from castle street. Here is the link for the bus service in Belfast. http://www.translink.co.uk/ Don't miss Queens University - again beside Botanic Gardens and the City Hall in the City Centre. Another nice walk is around the docklands. Have a good trip |
Thank you all for your input. I kinda figured I'd have to work out a way to get to the museum and Botanic gardens. Are the buses easy to take? Anyone know the cost? I'll check out Black Taxi Tours, too.
Thanks again. |
Hi M,
The bus is easy to use (Metro). Use the link I gave you and click on METRO and it will give you the fares and the timetable (approx £1 per journey but there are all day fares around Belfast). Where are you staying? If you like walking and shopping check out the Lisburn Road - great shops and coffee shops that stretch for about a mile. Helen |
