WALES information needed

I will be traveling to Wales in May and departing from the Birmingham airport. Does anyone know of a centrally located hotel I could spent the night prior to the departure to the U.S. on the return. It would be ideal if I could spend the last day of the trip touring Mid-Wales and then stay at a nice hotel within a one hour drive from Birmingham. Appreciate any suggestions. Carole

Hello Carole

Stratford on Avon and Warwick are only half an hour by car from Birmingham Airport. You may wish to do a search on this forum for accomodation in those areas, as there are plenty of postings covering the topic, and it is hard to recommend without knowing your preferences or budget.

Warwick and Stratford are both good suggestions. Another which may be more convenient if you are coming from mid-Wales may be Shrewsbury which is a pretty market town near the border.
Hi Carole
I noticed that the replies to your message seem to be telling you to stay in England rather than Wales! There are lots of nice places to stay in Wales. As I don't know what sort of place you have in mind, here is the link to the official Wales Tourism site which lets you search for suitable accommodation. http://www.tourism.wales.gov.uk/
I hope you enjoy your visit.

The only reason that we're suggesting english towns is that they are more convenient if you want to be within an hour of Birmingham airport. Shrewsbury is practically on the border with Wales and is a good suggestion because you pass very close to it going from North/Mid Wales to Birmingham

You might want to try this link . They have great information on wales and their forums are very active.

http://wales.about.com/aboutuk/wales/mbody.htm

We are recently returned from a trip which included several days in North Wales. Although I can't answer your specific hotel/airport question, would be happy to try on other questions you may have.

I don't understand why people are suggesting locations on the opposite side of Birmingham to Wales.

Try http://www.ukseries.com - from there you can access hotels, B&Bs, guest houses, self-catering accommodation, etc.

There are plenty that are near Birmingham, but close to both the city and Wales.

If you give me an idea of what type (inc. budget) of accommodation you are after, I'll be happy to suggest a suitable option.

Paul
Paul, I can't see any hotels here that are on the opposite side of Birmingham to Wales. Warwick is the suggestion that is furthest east, and that is about 15 miles south of BHX.
