Waldorf - Montparnasse area

Is the Montparnasse area safe? I'm looking at the Hotel Waldorf Montparnasse on Rue du Depart but am a bit reluctant. I welcome your opinions of this area... thanks!

The area is safe and very busy with traffic, pedestrians, and those utilizing the Gare Montparnasse... that particular street isn't lovely, but the hotel looks nice. did you read the reviews on Tripadvisor.com?

Montparnasse is one of the most popular areas in Paris with the French. Restaurants, theatres, cinemas, bars. It has been a big draw since even before Hemingway and Miller wrote about it.

I stayed at the Waldorf Montparnasse with my daughter several years ago. I would stay there again.

The neighborhood is filled with movie theaters, restaurants, cafes, creperies. There is a street market around the corner on Edgar Quinet on Wednesday and Saturday. It turns into an arts and crafts market on Sunday.

The small and very good restaurant La Cerisaie is around the corner on Edgar Quinet.

There is a lot of shopping in the small mall across the street next to the gare Montparnasse and on the rue de Rennes.

I stayed in that area last year, on Blvd. Raspail. It was a great area to be in. I really think you'll like it. Several metro stops are very handy so getting around the city is very easy. It's also walkable to the river and Bon Marche is close by..I like to shop. (:

Please, stop making Montparnasse sound so attractive. I'll have to find another area to avoid Fodorites.
