Waldorf Madeleine Hotel Info
 

I apologize to the person I emailed regarding this hotel before I left for Paris, but I lost your email address and wanted to give you the "thumbs up" on this hotel. <BR> <BR>The price is good (we prepaid on the Hotel Reservation Network and it worked out great) and the breakfast was included and it is a really nice buffet that they serve in a breakfast room on the first floor. They have assorted rolls, croissants, ham, cheese, crackers, cold cereal, fresh fruit, yogurt, assorted juices and coffe and tea. It is really a wonderful assortment and it held us until dinner every day! The staff is very nice and very helpful and the breakfast room ladies are very sweet! The front desk people are extremely helpful for anything you may need and the location is wonderful! We were right by the Madeleine church which is beautiful, you must see it and off of Rue Royale which takes you right to Rue de Rivoli and the museum areas! We walked everywhere!! We walked far and long, but we walked everywhere and enjoyed it immensely! The Champs Elysee is right off of Rue de Rivoli by The American Embassy and it is a wonderful walk. I could have walked up and down the Champs every day. <BR>The rooms were very comfortable and they have very nice remodeled bathrooms with marble and a real bath and shower and shower curtain (rare in Paris) and each person gets their own terry cloth robe too! The single beds were a bit small and the pillows need to be larger and fluffy (not flat like the ones we had), but other than that it was a perfect hotel! So, enjoy your stay and tell the hotel staff that The Melick Mom and daughter that stayed there May 15-25 said "bonjour and merci!" Enjoy your trip! It was our first to Paris and we loved it and would go back in a minute! Bonvoyage! <BR>Michele

Michele, it may have been me, not sure. Did you eat at the Chez Tante Loiuse on Rue Boissy d'Anglais right around the corner from the hotel? Did you take the bus from CDG to the Amercian Express building behind the opera? Did you walk or take a taxi to your hotel from there?

John: I don't think it was you, another man emailed me directly and thanked me for the info. He and his wife are going this month. We did not eat at either of those restaurants, but we did love the location, etc. It was terrific! We did eat at different cafes and restaurants. We did eat at one near the hotel right across from the Madeleine church, but the name escapes me. We had good spaghetti, bread and wine and very cheap! We had a nice dinner at Chez Andre off of the Champs Elysees and that was very good also! We did take a bus from CDG, but we took it to the Opera and that was only a few blocks from the hotel so we just walked with our suitcases. They are on wheels, although mine was way too heavy and the wheels were not rolling as they should, so I could not wait to find the hotel! That is a little rough when you are unsure of the direction you need to go. We took a cab from the hotel back to the airport when we left and that was about 230 francs with suitcase fee. Paris is wonderful and we enjoyed our two weeks very much and would go back any time! You seem to be on this website a lot, are you a big Paris fan? Do you go often? <BR>Michele

Michele, yes, I am a big Paris fan. I use to go a lot and lived there for a year. The last few years I've been going to Italy. Glad you enjoyed your trip.

Michele, We used to stay at the Hotel Madeleine Plaza which sounds very much like the hotel you've described, it was at 33, place de la Madeleine directly across the place from Fourchand. We stayed there on all our Paris trips, starting in 1988, but a couple of years ago we found it was closed for renovations. It used to be a cheap and funky place to stay, balconies looking out on the Place. In '88, the tab was 310FF/night, the last bill I have shows 430FF, +60FF for breakfast. It was a wonderful location, what is the rate now?

It is not the same hotel. Ours was 12 Blvd. Malsherbes which is about 1 block away from the Madeleine church. Fouchon is sort of behind the Madeleine church, so you were at a different hotel. It sounds like you enjoyed yours though. Ours was about $200 U.S. p/night which included the VAT tax and a buffet breakfast that was wonderful! The rooms were quite big, beds small though and the bathrooms were just remodeled and updated. Nice marble and a real shower, tub and shower curtain (rare in Paris). The hotel staff was very sweet and very helpful as well. I recommend it highly if you should ever go back to Paris. <BR>Michele
