Wait--London Room Prices per Person, Not per Room???
 

I was just going through some of the old posts on London and saw that someone wrote, "If you have not been to the UK before, remember that the price you are quoted is PER PERSON, not per room!!" <BR><BR> Is this true??? So for example, a room at the Garden Court Hotel, which is L78 for a twin, would actually be L156??? I sure hope this isn't correct! <BR><BR>Please clear this up for me, <BR><BR>Thanks,

Vanessa, in general that is NOT correct. <BR>Hotel prices quoted by the hotel are almost always per room. <BR>When tour organizations or airlines or or other travel planners offer hotel packages, they often quote a per person hotel rate, based on double occupancy. <BR>Your hotel said the charge is L78 for a twin room, not per person. You can certainly confirm this with them.

Good news, in your specific case. <BR>If you go to http://www.s-h-systems.co.uk/a00089.html you'll find rates listed for the Garden Court Hotel in London, and it says specifically that doubles/twins cost from 54 to 82 pounds PER ROOM. <BR>"quoted" is a difficult word. Chances are that if you talk to a live human, or communicate by e-mail or fax with a British hotel, you'll get per room information, but if you take "quoted" to cover rates published in directories, or, most importantly, ads and brochures, look for the small print to make sure. <BR>BAK

A good rule of thumb is this. Unless stated otherwise the price is per room. You will notice that they normally will give a single and a double price.

Many times if you get out of the larger cities and into small hotels or B&Bs you will be quoted per person. I have found this quite common in Wales and Ireland. I always phrase my request for "a twin bedded en suite room for two persons inclusive of breakfast." etc. That way you'll know exactly what you're being quoted.

Vanessa, I would suggest you call, fax or email just to be on the safe side, if you are worried. I had a rough time once in London when I booked a hotel online where it said price per room. Only to discover upon Check out 4 days later (my own fault for sure, not asking in advance, but after a 10 hour flight, what can you say?) that the room was double what I thought it would be, effectively trashing my budget for the next 2 weeks! Luckily my credit card company allowed me to go over my limit, but now I always make a point of asking if there is any confusion. Mostly I have found the per person rate applies to B & B's, but it's better to be sure.

Hi! I'm the person who wrote that prices are per person, and not per room. The other posters here are correct - it can be both ways(have had some friends who received a rude shock when they discovered they had to pay per person instead of per room, similar to Thyra's experience). <BR> <BR>The safest thing to do is confirm the pricing policy with the hotel/inn/B&B/hostel BEFORE BOOKING.
