Waht kind of shoes do Italian college students wear?

My son will be spending a quarter in Siena, Itlay. How do the Italian kids dress. His school has advised the American students not to wear sneakers. what should he wear? What about clothes? Do they wear jeans? thanks, we need to do some shoppin before he goes. I know he can buy what he needs there.

Debby

Hi, Debby. They dress just like American kids. Really. Most of the times, I couldn't tell them apart. Yes they wear jeans, and they wear sneakers. The only difference is they don't tend to wear shorts as much as Americans. I would buy the basics, and let him buy what he wants when gets to Siena.

What a great opportunity for you son.

That is a crock that Italian teenagers don't wear sneakers and jeans. Nike and Addidas sneaks go over big in Italy. In America it is no big deal for a mom to go out and buy her kid a $75 pair of Nikes, but in Italy it is. Very few kids can afford these sneakers, so having a pair is a big status symbol. I was in Rome walking around with Nike running shoes and all the Italian kids I met said how "cool" they were.

When I was in Florence one year ago those bowling shoes (Campers?) were all the rage. But, maybe now they are passe?
