VRBO- Paris
 

I know I must be getting annoying, LOL....BUT if anybody has time to kill, will you look at VRBO #55848 and tell me if it's a good location for walking, ambience, charm, convenience. I am having a really hard time finding 8 nights in a row on such short notice in Paris and this place just had a cancellation.

(PS I am an expert on Kauai and have posted extensively on the Hawaii boards; I can return the favor of advice any time to all ypou kind folks who have helped me.)

I love that apt. I saw it when we were researching for our trip in March.
It is a studio, fine for 2. It has been renovated which is great! And it is on the 2nd floor (US) so that is good too. I love that courtyard..I would go for it.

I'm in agreement with Scarlett about this place. Location is great, price is fine, and it looks incredible.

If you stay there, vivi, will you post back and say how you liked it? Nothing beats personal recommendations on Fodors, especially for accomodations in Paris.

Yes, take it! We always use VRBO, and stayed at 35715 in November--also a studio, but had a bed instead of a sofa bed--my DH is tall and needs a 'real' bed. It was a great studio, but in an authentic historic building, up on the 5th floor. The place you have chosen looks excellent. We've been to Paris five times in six years, and this year I took the Segway tour--it was loads of fun!
Also--we're going to Kauai in two weeks, staying at a VRBO studio in Poipu Beach--what are the must do's in Kauai? I want to go to Shrimp Station, eat a Puka Dog, and find the movie theater where dogs wander in and out and you sit on old couches. We will have a car, and plan to go to Ke'e and Tunnels, Queen's Bath, and Secret Beach up north. We're not gourmets, and while I'll try a plate lunch, my DH won't. He is an amateur photographer and we both are avid snorkelers (in our 50s). Thanks, vivi.

We have stayed at vrbo #5967, it is in vicinity of 55848. Great apartment, don't know if it's booked.

My only drawback is the sofa bed, which I've never experienced a really comfortable one, and dislike having to make up the bed into the sofa every day.
But if that doesn't bother you -- go for it. I agree, great location. Pretty bath and look! A glass enclosure on the bathtub/shower. Hooray! On second floor and even has a lift! Maybe it's enough to even make me forgive the sleeper sofa idea.

Hi Vivi - I just stayed in this building in February. (I stayed in the other studio offered by that owner.) I absolutely loved it! The location was perfect for me - rue Mouffetard is my favorite street in Paris. Lots of activity, shops and people out at all hours, but go through the big private door and the courtyard couldn't be more serene and quiet. The apartment I stayed in was fabulous and from what I've seen of the one you're looking at, it looks great as well (but of course the sofa bed is a question mark, as the others have pointed out).

Anyway, as far as walking, ambience, charm and convenience, I could not score this place higher; it's a 10 on a scale of 1-10 for me, and I've been to Paris (and stayed in lots of different locations) eight times in the last eight years. This place has wrecked me on the other locations now though, I'll only want to return here in the future!

oops! Make that six times to Paris in the last eight years...will have to go two more times very soon though since the eight times in eight years is so much easier to remember...

That appartment looks super! Really, I think all the apartments offered by that owner look great. If you stay there, please report back because the look, price, and location look rather ideal.

Thanks for the replies. I booked the apartment and of course I will report back as soon as I get home! I may even send an on-the-spot report as the apartment has DSL and I am taking a laptop!

Yes, the sofa bed is a concern as I hate folding and unfolding them. I would NEVER consider a studio with a sofa bed if my husband were going to be on the trip but since I am alone I can tough it out!

It comes out to be $137 a night which seems to be a good deal.

Moondoggie- I tried to book #35175 but it was not available. That also looks like a great spot. Go to the Hawaii board and I will answer your questions!

Luna- what does "classified building" mean exactly? I am thinking it means "secure." is the courtyard accessible only thru a gate?

Grrrrrrr, I am back to square one again for Amsterdam. I found a great VBRO, but it got grabbed up minutes before I e-mailed to confirm.

I agree with all the yay-sayers. It does look wonderful and the surrounding area is gorgeous.

My only worry like Patrick would be the sofa bed. I have a bad back but if you're tough go for it.

Nothing to do with security. Classified is (immeuble) classe -- a historic building. Sorry, my French accents are not working on my clavier (keyboard)

If it's quite good it will be on the ISMH -- Inventaire supplementaire des monuments historiques.

There is something even better, which I guess must be the Inventaire des monuments historiques. But you have to live in the Chateau de Chambord to get that designation....

Yes, as tedgale said, I believe "classified" refers to its status as a historic building. (The website says it's 17th century.)

As for the courtyard, yes you do need a code to enter (they'll send it to you via email beforehand), and it's accessible from both the rue Mouffetard and the rue Tournefort.

Ugh, this makes my heart ache - I wish I was there right now! I had snow falling on 5 of the 7 days I was there; it was so lovely every morning to wake up in that adorable apartment listening to Vivaldi or jazz, drinking coffee and eating pastry as I looked out through the French windows onto the lovely courtyard, watching the snow fall and planning my itinerary for the day. A few of the days I would map out the itinerary and then slowly cross "to do" items off the list as I relaxed instead of leaving that perfect Parisian "nest"...
