Vote! Croatia or Crete
We are trying to make last minute plans for the end of April -May (13 days)-- for our honeymoon.
We want deluxe accomodations for most or part of the trip and we need votes/recommendations!
Also, we want warm weather.
Should we go to Croatia? If so, where? Where all do we stay? What is the weather like? What cities should we visit?
Crete? Where do we stay? Where else should we go? Should we start in Athens? or charter a boat? Help!
We don't want to be trekking on our honeymoon but we do love traveling.
Thanks.

Hmmm, you will find lots of deluxe accommodation in Crete and I have been several times- its one of my favourite islands. Unfortunately, I haven't been to Croatia so can't really say. Definitely on my list. I stayed at The Blue Palace hotel last time in Crete. I can't say I liked it though. Too big for me and too much of a resort. MIght be good for you if it's your honeymoon. I had one of the suites with a private pool.
If you are planning your honeymoon, does it have to be in Greece? I would say that if you are looking for warmth, what about Egypt?

If warmth is the key, try the Burj el-Arad in Dubai.
Meantime I can't CHOOSE between the two places because I've never been to Croatia, but Crete is fabby.
I don't do luxury, but from everything I've read I think you're talking Elounda. the Blue Palace is the one I've read about taht looked poshest, but I've not been and am disappointed by AllyPally's view.
Others in the same neck of the woods would be listed on http://www.elounda.com/index.php
I happen to love the west better and personally I'd probably go for somewhere in or near Chania.

Thank you for your responses. I think we are going to put Croatia on the list of places to go later.
So-- Crete-- when were you there? What other islands are good? How should we get around on the island? And should we charter a boat or go on a ferry to another island? Did you spend time in Athens?
What months have you been to Greece?
Those other suggestions sound fabulous. We will be flying from the States so it will be a longer trip.
Keep posting!
Thanks

Good morning signmeup. I have been to Crete in September (twice) and October and April.
The only other Greek island (if you don't count Cyprus) I've been to is Lesbos, which I hugely enjoyed, but for different reasons. Anyway Crete is the bee's knees
.
It's a big place, and a car is very handy. There are excellent public buses, but the car will give you much greater flexibility.
Not sure what you mean by "charter a boat" There are regular ferries from Athens to Iraklion and Chania (Souda), although rumour has it that the Souda run is stopping. There are odd ferries to Kissamos and Sitia too. There are frequent planes to Iraklion and Chania from Athens.
I have spent a couple of days in Athens twice. The charm is yet to rub off on me

You MUST go to Santorini!!! I wasn't going to suggest it at first as I thought you were moving in the opposite direction. A holiday on both Crete and Santorini are entirely do-able, Santorini is about 4 hours ferry ride north of Crete. However, if is a completely different island altogether, not only from a size perspective (Crete is the biggest) but also because it is volcanic. Type 'brotherleelove2004' into the search box. At the moment, we are having a friendly debate over which side of the lovely village of Oia one should stay on in Santorini!!
As for the Blue Palace, I wouldn't say it is a bad hotel. It's just that I go to Greece for the simplicity (I live and work in the middle of London so I like it quiet) and the Blue Palace is very flash and "Versace" like with a huge spa complex and 5 restaurants. It's not my cup of tea but it might be yours
I spent my entire time there gazing out to the sea, wishing I was in Santorini...sigh

ok. allypally and any others- so crete and santorini are doable. the blue palace-- hmmm. we want to have a little luxury, service - (the best way i can put it is that if there was a chateau, castle, or boutique hotel in greece or on the islands- that is where we would want to stay.
I was in Bali yrs ago and in Ubud there is this amazing hotel in the rice fields-- not big Ritz but separate bungalows and very classy.
Would we really not like the Blue Palace?
So-where do we stay in Santorini? I am liking the sounds of things.
So any other islands?
