Vondel Park/Rijksmuseum locale, Amsterdam
 

would this be a good neighborhood to stay in? I found a nice hotel for 108 euros...

I stayed in Amsterdam for 5 days prior to my 18 day cruise and stayed in the area you spoke of.<BR>I sat in the park occassionally and walked all around the museum area. I was travelling solo and didn't run into ANY problems. Really enjoyed the area. I stayed in the Marriott which was very nice.<BR> Enjoy yourself in Amsterdam. It is a city I really enjoyed.

We stayed at the Hotel Washingon in the Museumplein area (just south and east of the Riyks)check out the rants and raves on Fodor's main menu. It is convenient to trams and in a lovely neighborhood. Have a grand time!

Vondel Park are is nice and convenient to Leidseplein area but a better experience would be to stay at a canalside hotel. The Ambassade on the Herengracht is very nice although the rates are around $150.
