Volvo Overseas Delivery

Hi, I am thinking of picking up a Volvo Sportswagen v50 2.4i in Sweden through the European Delivery program. I am thinking of driving from Gotheborg to Copenhagen and then back. Anything else you would recommend seeing? I posted a similar post in the Fodorites Lounge, mostly about the car itself. If you have a horror story about Volvo, please feel free to share. Thanks!

I have no horror stories about Volvo. They treated us like VIPs. It is an excellent program. I have never been to Copenhagen, so can't comment on that. However, Gotherburg is worth at least 2 days. Check out the Gothenburg Pass http://tinyurl.com/298pt7o

Rainyday - did you end up doing this? We are thinking about it for March 2011 pickup.

RainyDay09 Dec 4th, 2010 05:43 PM

Yes, we picked up our car in August and LOVED the whole process. The car arrived to Seattle in october (the downside is the wait). I would recommend going when the weather is better and the days are longer. We had some rainy days in Stockholm and Goteborg in mid-August. I have a trip report somewhere, although I would be glad to provide you with additional details, if you have questions. Volvo does a great job taking care of everything. Where are you thinking of going in Sweden with your car?

RainyDay09 Mar 4th, 2011 06:42 PM

By the way, DebitNM, where are you going? I love my V50. It has been really fun to drive.

DebitNM Mar 4th, 2011 06:49 PM

We leave on 13 April. We will stop in Copenhagen for 4 days, then take the train to Gothenburg to pick up the car. We will drive up to Norway, stopping in Oslo and then on to Voss for a few days. Drive back down to Oslo, spend the night then back to Gothenburg to drop off the car and wish it bon voyage as it goes on the boat home. We'll spend 2 days in Gothenburg. We will then take the train to Stockholm for 5 days. From there we will fly to Paris, spend 8 days there and then fly home from Paris.

The car is already being built, as we got the VIN # about 10 days ago. Our flights are tickets and all reservations for accomodations, trains and planes are set.

CAN'T WAIT!

Wow, what a trip! It sounds fantastic. Where are you staying in CPH and Stockholm? Both cities were fantastic.

DebitNM Mar 4th, 2011 08:03 PM

Staying at Marriott in CPH and Courtyard in Stockholm.

RainyDay09 Mar 4th, 2011 08:12 PM

Looks like great locations in both cities.

Congrats DebitNM! ED is the best way to buy a new car. It adds an extra layer of fun to the planning, too. My ED ranks as one of my favorite trips, so far.

Maybe i could pick you up at the airport and take you to your hotel.

Paging DebitNM, can't wait to hear about your trip! A trip report, please...

DebitNM May 9th, 2011 03:15 PM

I am working on it, still trying to get caught up on things. It was a wonderful trip, everything from the flights over to the hotels, the apt in Paris, the CAR, the delivery experience, the food, the sights, the history....

Soon, I promise!

Can someone please post how much the V50, for example, costs when you pick it up in Sweden and what the applicable taxes were once you arrived back home??

lincasanova May 12th, 2011 11:47 PM

Nevermind, their website seems thorough although I haven't read all the details yet. The V50 isn't available to price for this system now.

RainyDay09 May 13th, 2011 08:47 PM

Yes, it is so unfortunate that they decided to discontinue overseas delivery for S40 and V50. Would C30 work you, lincasanova? It looks like fun car. If I didn't have a kid, I would be buy a C30.

lincasanova May 14th, 2011 01:04 AM

Just playing around with this idea for our son who might be moving to the US.... but I see their system clearly online. Thanks. I should've looked for their website before bothering anybody!
