Everything you've written is correct. Mine was a general caveat with no one in particular in mind.

We never tried to charge the phone in the car, only at night in our rooms so I am not even going to think about car adaptors.

Thanks for that, Robespierre. With your post coming so soon after mine, it wasn't unreasonable to conclude that you were specifically referring to me. Incidentally, that was a very good reference you provided. Had you responded with it first I probably wouldn't have bothered to reply to the OP, as anything I said would have been redundant.

For the record, I have a range of German-made heavy duty step-down transformers up to 1500 watts to run American appliances in my European home. With the price of things in the UK, it is often cheaper to buy from a US source and run through a transformer. The heavy duty transformers are far too heavy to use for travel, though.

I have the opposite problem of most posters on this board, as when I visit my family the US, as I will next month, my devices need to run on 120V electricity. Whenever possible I buy dual or multivoltage products.
