Viva Valencia???????????

We are going to Valencia in September for a motorcycle race. I don't see any postings on the city. Is there anything good anyone can say about Valencia? We need a place to stay and have not found accomodations yet....any suggestions? Please help!

"valencia gave birth to paella" - a rice saffron dish with seafood - that's what our guidebook said and this is why we spent two days there - it's a nice resort side town, pleanty of strolling through old streets to do, but the #1 thing you must do is go to the beach side and order a great dish of paella :)))
look for accomodations on the net

Sandy: Just read an article in a monthly Swiss magazine about Valencia when waiting at the dentist today. It must be the big shooting star in Spain for everything. Very hip and in.
It's true, there are almost no postings about. If you don't get help, try to find with www.google.com by typing in "Valencia".
Just to get a first impression what it is like.
Enjoy!

And Valencia is home to the most spectacular street festival anywhere:

Las Fallas.

These are huge paper and wood statues with varying themes. Each takes about a year to construct, and all of them, except one, get burned on the night the festival ends.

Quite impressive.

Valencia is the majoy industrial city in Spain, but also a lovely old town.

I used to go to Valencia quite often for business, always stayed at "Melia Valencia Palace",it is a nice modern hotel at the south side of the river park(they filled up the old river bed into a huge park,it seemed the whole city strolling out there in the late afternoon), right accross Music Hall, it is much quiter in the night, and about 10 minutes walk to the old town.

Must see:The old town is very small, everything within walking distance.
Central Market is one of the largest and oldest, anything imaginable sold in the market. You could get best price and quality saffron. do ry breakfast or snack at the stalls outside the market.

Bullring and Cathedral are worth visiting. If you like gardens, try Jardines del real, sometimes there are open air concerts during weekends.

They are several small museums in town also, I like "Museo de Bella Artes San Pio V"best.

Colon is the major shopping street, but there are many interesting samll shops south of Cathedral.

As the above posts, many seafood restaurants on the Promenade near the harbour. But for best lamb, try "Asador Aurora" or "La Montaraza". Tapas bars are very popular too.

Probably because Valencia is commercial and industrial oriented, it is the lest touristy, more lively city in Spain and more enjoyable.
