Viterbo, Italy - Is There a Tourist Office?

I recently did a day trip from Rome to Viterbo by train - and i usually like to track down the tourist office ASAP to get a town map, etc.

And though i saw several maps, which were appalingly terrible to find anything on, which indicated there was a tourist office and saw various signs around this hilly hilltown pointing to some presumed tourist office i never found the darn thing and i looked and looked.

After a while it became a mission to find it and i circled the town centre several times before concluding that such an office doesn't exist at least did not in January when i looked for it.

The final Agony of Defeat came when i went to the train station to return to Rome and saw a huge "Turismo" sign pointing back to the town centre.

I know i could Google and get an address but does anyone know if there is a tourist office in Viterbo and where?

Thanks

Thanks Steve i'll look at a map and see if i went by that address.

As for the station one - i had to wait an hour for a train and perused every nook and cranny of this small sleepy station and saw no tourist office.

Maybe none there open in January?

But thanks a lot!

This is just the reason that prompted me to set up a website (cultural, not commercial) to give some info about the town and area where I live. www.elegantetruria.com
I have printed out this thread to show the officials who are paid to do tourism for the area.
There is an American high school and an American college program in town and an opera festival planned for July-August-we need more visibility!!!
Thanks for helping, your criticism is constructive and just, lets hope they get their act together

vetralla:

interesting site and purpose.

i loved Viterbo but had forgot to take some material i had copied from guides with a map so really was floundering around town - looking for Turismo after seeing several signs.

I wondered around the upper town then down to the commercial town and back to the upper town - where the high school kids were getting out of school and back to lower town - not knowing what i was seeing.

But even then it was extremely pleasant town - floundering sometimes is better than didactically doing a circuit.

But the tourist info and posted maps sucked - the maps were useless.

Ciao
