Vitamin packaging

Is it ok to pack vitamins in baggies, or do they need to be in their original containers during international air travel?

kismetchimera Aug 16th, 2004 07:13 PM

I keep mines in their original containers..

If I didn't pack mine in baggies, I would need another suitcase!! No one has ever questioned any medication in many transatlantic/pacific flights.

I use baggies for vitamines; all my prescription meds go into one bottle - together without original scripts. Have never been questioned.
Always pack these in your carryon bag.

I've always used baggies for vitamins and meds, as well. I do bring along prescription info for any packed prescription meds, however. Just in case they are inquired about.

Hi K,

My Lady Wife packs her 475 kinds of vitamins and supplements in Ziploc bags.

Budman Aug 17th, 2004 05:18 AM

ira, yours too? ((b))

I just put all of my vitamins in one bottle - that is take enough of each separate one and stick in the big multivitamin bottle. Not that I'm concerned about baggies/customs - but I've had baggies open in the carry-on - but in one big bottle I can always find them.

I sometimes use those little sandwich bags with zip closures for some things. I have never been questioned about them. But, I have found it easier for me to take those weekly pill cases. Each compartment holds the vitamins, calcium, ginger (which I swear by to settle a nervous about flying stomach), etc. for the day. This last trip I had to take 3 cases, but I didn't have to open and close little bags and try to remember if I took the them or not. They take a little more space, but I think it makes it easier for me.

For highly controlled substances, it's best to have them in the original drugstore-labeled container, just in case there's a question about the drugs at customs (very very unlikely, but possible). For everything else, baggies or the weekly compartmented box should be fine. It is also a good idea to have a printout of the prescription items (for blood pressure, arthritis, etc) from the pharmacy, plus a list of the vitamins and supplements -- for customs, to get replacements if something falls into the toilet, or to provide info to treating doctors in case of emergency.

Thanks for all the great info. I bought bottles of 30 when possible to cover my husband and me for two weeks. I bought essential oils in bulk, though. I like the idea of throwing them into another bottle! Will probably use a ziploc baggie for my daughter's Flintones-I assume those won't be questioned!

I put all pills and vitamins in pill case which I can label, and the case goes into a ziploc in case of accidental opening.

Hello Marianna from another ginger fan :) it helps on buses and planes.

Marianna Aug 17th, 2004 01:22 PM

Hi FainaAgain, I take it everyday. I guess my stomach is prone to that nervous, upset feeling and the ginger really helps to settle it down. I take a little extra just before and during flying, riding a long distance or taking a boat trip.

I put mine in small ziplock bags from the drugstore, special for medications. I put prescription meds in them too and put the label from the bottle on each bag.
