visting rostock germany

we are planning on traveling from Warnemeunde to Rostock on a day trip while
our cruise ship is docked.
several people have suggested taking the train which we are planning on doing.
several people suggested returning by boat but did not give further details.
is taking a boat back expensive? if so we could get return train tickets.
we are planning on seeing the astrological clock and perhaps the Stassi police
museum.
is there anything else of interest in rostock?
Also planning on visiting the light house in Warnemeunde
other than that anything else there to see.
Also a good place for lunch?
Also once we get back to our ship which does not leave until late evening is there a bar or night club in warnemeunde with entertainment?

Actually you can go even beyond Rostock given ample time while docked in Warnemunde. My daughter and I did just that 2 years ago while we were on a Baltic and Scandinavia cruise by taking the commuter train from the port to Rostock and a regional train north to the city of Lubeck, the home of marzipan and a beautiful medieval castle. We left at around 8 am, went around the city and had a nice lunch at the famous marzipan house and was back in Wardemunde for cocktails and dinner by 7pm. A day well spent and it did'n't cost us that much. We got Lander tickets from DB Bahn which offered Unlimited 2nd class train travel for 1 day within a relevant federal state. If you look at the website this is currently priced at euro21 for 1-5 persons. Or you can simply purchase tickets at the Rostock train station on day of travel.

For a night club in Warnemünde check five star Hotel Neptun.

For some tips about what to do and see in Rostock, check out my Rostock page over on Virtualtourist: http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/f86bd/5cea/ This city is a lot more interesting than its general reputation.

The fare for the boat trip is 10 € per adult.

The ship departs from Rostock about every 30 minutes, last departure is at 15h30.
