Does anyone know what coupon/discounts you receive for various admissions in London when you purchase the Visitors Travelcard in the U.S.? Was considering LFL, but read you do receive discounts for certain admissions but would like to know to what; don't want to pay extra for LFL if obtaining discounts for certain admissions anyway. Any info appreciated!

No difference, the 6-zone Visitor Travelcard is what you get if you get the LondonPass with the travel option. You can also get the LondonPass in London without it. <BR><BR>The LondonPass also gives you a credit-card-type pass that gets you free into a lot of attractions, boats, movies, restaurant discounts, free teddy bear at Hamley's etc.<BR><BR>Since so many attractions, including major museums, are free in London, it's a good idea to price out your own itinerary before choosing. In my case, traveling with kids, it was MUCH cheaper to get daily travel cards rather then the advance visitor travelcard. We got the 6-day LondonPass and got good use out of it, but we were there for 3 weeks so we spent one whole week doing the free things.

Need to know difference from London For Less guidebook with discount card for $19.95 from the London For Less compact guidebook for $9.95. Both sound like they are the same thing. Incidently, the LFL card is a better deal than the London Pass, giving more discounts on admissions, food, money exchange, phone card, etc. The Visitors Travel Card is also less expensive when bought in US.

The Greenwich stops on the DLR are in Zone 2, and Hampton Court Palace is accessible directly by the R68 bus from the Richmond stop in Zone 4 on the District line. All the more reason why the 6-zone travelcard that comes with the LondonPass is overkill for most visitors!

Just a note: the one-day zones 1-2 pass is GBP 5.30 peak/4.10 off-peak (I think that's after 9:30). The 7-day zones 1-2 pass is 19.30; I think these are better deals than a Visitors travelcard.

Gregg, that's a pretty sweeping statement about London for Less being a better deal than the LondonPass. <BR><BR>A glance at the LFL web site shows many places that are on the London Pass, or which are now free (since the tax laws changed earlier this winter). Remember, the LFL book gives 10 to 50 percent discounts or two-for-the-price-of-one, whereas the LondonPass users get into attractions for free. For instance, the LondonPass includes relatively expensive places like Hampton Court and the Tower of London for free, while LFL gives discounts of just 10 percent. <BR><BR>That's why each traveler has to do their own comparison, based on their own itinerary.<BR><BR>And I'm pretty sure that the Visitors Travelcard can ONLY be bought in advance of arrival.<BR><BR>http://www.for-less.com/LFLattr.html<BR><BR>http://217.206.223.62/mission/londonpass/index.htm

Ok......can someone tell me how to find out what tube lines are in what 'zones'? <BR><BR>Also where to find out prices for individual trips? Like from Heathrow into Paddington?<BR><BR>Thanks!!

The many tube lines basically radiate out from the center of the city, crossing several zones. The center of the system is Zone 1, with zones up to 6 in concentric rings like a target. The London Transport web site has a map, and printed maps are available all over the place in London and in the back of most tourbooks. And on socks and T-shirts and Dumbledore's knee, it's a justifiably famous graphic design!<BR><BR>Anyway, most destinations that tourists are interested in will be in Zones 1 and 2, though Heathrow, zone 6, is an exception. <BR><BR>When you buy a tube pass, you specify which zones you want it to cover, and it's priced accordingly. There's a ten-pound fine for going too far! If you're making a trip beyond the range of your pass, you can buy an extension (I forget the proper name) before boarding.<BR><BR>The tube's web site also has a feature called "journey planner" that will tell you how to get from one station to another.<BR><BR>http://www.thetube.com/content/tubemap/
