a pub sounds amazing right about now! haha

The pubs in London: do they all stay open pretty late, or is there a time ordinance for them?

Hever's a bit of a pain to reach.>>

agreed if you do it as a day trip, but not if you incorporate it in a longer visit to the other lovely places in that area - Chartwell, Chiddingstone, Westerham, Knole [and Seveonoaks] - are all close by.

And i know that that IS off topic, but I sometimes think that if the area south east of London were further away from the capital, more people would visit it.

Pubs generally serve until 11pm

Back to the itinerary a bit. I think you definitely need two days for York and three days for Edinburgh to do it justice. There is plenty to see/do in both places.

London has enough to do for a month or more. Have fun reading the guidebooks and determining what is of interest to you.

I agree with europeannovice. I would want more time in Edinburgh than in York.

Thank you. Yes, with my most recent itinerary above, I have 2 nights in Yorn and 2.5, if night 3.5 days in Edinburgh. We will probably make it be 15 days on ground total to make that extra full day in Edinburgh work. I appreciate your guidance. :)

How did I manage to drive in the US [or europe} without the equivalent guide, Chris?

and what's so awful about the Cotswolds?

but to use an american phrase, your guide is "awesome"!

UK: welcome to fodors. But honestly??? Hundreds of hours??? Either a huge exaggeration, or you may be a bit OCD.

Most people look at a map (or program the sat nav) put the car in gear and drive off following the car in front, and, ignoring the screams coming from the back seat . . . just get on with it.

janisj Mar 15th, 2014 02:41 PM

BTW - I stopped reading early on. The point where you said the Cotswolds are a nightmare and to skip the "damn place". The Cotswolds are a doddle - not scary, and mostly not congested.

But I suspect this is may have been posted to drive viewers to your site since you never asked / researched about UK driving here on fodors. . .

did you look at the Loch lomond video?

seemed pretty average for me.

lucky the OP didn't come to Cornwall!

janisj Mar 16th, 2014 08:40 AM

oh - to clear up any confusion . . . Annhig's and my latest posts were re a post that has since been deleted. Too bad if you missed it ;)

WOAH! I did miss a little bit of action since my hiatus! haha. I hope nothing offensive was said to you all who have been trying to help me. I apologize if any of my questions have stirred up conflict.

I showed my husband my projected itinerary and he actually really liked it! Now the extended research begins! We may even push the trip up! :) :)
