Tempting. How the heck do I get to Denfert-Rochereau at 4:00 am? Night bus, I suppose?

We had a splendid time yesterday. You would not believe how many people show up for this -- we filled two full sized buses at Denfert-Rochereau.

And here is the report: http://tinyurl.com/rungismarket

Sorry we couldn't be there. You all look adorable in white, though

That looks so intriguing. Attention must be paid if there is a tripe pavilion!

The photos are quite a site and the breakfast sounds wonderful!

Nice report. I have several pictures of those exact same things (and a few others) of our tour in 2011. Ours started at 2.30am and finished with breakfast at 8.00 - 9.00am.
My favourite pavilion was the cheese one, with the further divided special areas within, and also the meat area with the hundreds of hanging carcasses.
I still have my hair net somewhere, lol.
Thanks for sharing.

2:30 would have been much easier with no pretense of trying to sleep beforehand.

I kept my "charlotte" (hairnet).

Exactly. We were picked up from our accommodations at 1.30am so effectively pulling an all-nighter, then collapsed into bed for 6 - 8 hours after we returned from the tour.
I remember the evening before, going for a late night run around 10.30pm to the Eiffel Tower (from near Volontaires Metro) and back as part of the 'stay awake' plan. All worked fine except I was very hungry around5.00am. Sure hope no one missed that bunch of finger radishes when we were in the vegetable section.

Did you see that section with all the animal heads split neatly in half for the sale of the brains ? Mainly pig and lamb/sheep. I got some interesting pics of that, lol.

My barber used to work at Rungis in the meat section during the summer when she was in high school. She started at 02.00 and the first day she just brought a little snack with her. She said the others were talking about steaks at the break at 05.00 and she thought they sounded crazy. But she ate a steak with the others during her break the very first day and would have gladly eaten two of them.

I don't know exactly what she did because there are not many women in that section and she was certainly not carrying carcasses.
