Visiting Pont du Gard from St Remy

We will be making a trip to Pont du Gard from our hotel in St Remy on a day in March . Other than the Pont which is a better fit for that day-Uzes or Nime? Or maybe there is another place that we have overlooked? TIA.

It it's market day (saturday) I'd go to Uzes but you could do both with an early start.

Uzès and Nîmes are both very close to the Pont du Gard. If you can schedule your visit on a Wednesday or Saturday, you could easily drive directly to Uzès in the morning and spend an enjoyable hour or two at the market. Stay in town for lunch, and then visit Pont du Gard on your way back to St-Rémy in the afternoon. (Uzès to St-Rémy takes no more than an hour to drive.)

Alternatively, you could easily combine Nîmes and Pont du Gard in one day. While Nîmes has more things to look at than Uzès, it also takes quite a bit longer to get in and out of.

All in all, I'd combine the aqueduct with Uzès, as I love the look and feel of the town.

PS -- I believe the Saturday market in Uzès is year-round. I am less certain about the Wednesday market, but it has been in full swing in May, September, and October, which are the months I have stayed in Uzès.

Thanks for the help. This will be on a Monday or Tuesday so we will not make the market in Uzès. I think that we prefer a smaller town so Uzès it is. We will leave Nimes for another trip.

Both are great. It really depeds on what you are interested in and what you want to get out of each place. If you plan to go to Arles to see the roman ruins, then Nimes is not as necessary in my opinion. On the other hand, we really liked Nimes.

As above Uzes is small, compact and rather pretty as many from Paris have "secondaire" homes/apts here. So much has been spruced up. Easy to navigate, the church and it's organ are amazing. And the drive along the mountain side quite picturesque.

Nimes on the other hand, is rather large and very intresting. This to is walkable where the historic sites are found and some great museums.

Either would be a good choice for the first part of the day, have lunch and visit the Pont on your return. Most of the tourists will be gone - right before sunset is really great.

Then return to St. Remy, even if it's already dark, it's an easy drive.

We will be making a day trip to Uzes and are interested in visiting Tavel as well...have any of you been and do you recommend it? Should these be in one day??? We are eager to sample and purchase the Rose from Tavel, but could add this on to another day if you feel Uzes deserves the whole day... Thank you.
