Visiting olympic venues after the Olympics
We will be in London in early September.
Will it be possible to swim at the aquatic centre where the Olympic swimming races are being held? |
It appears that there is work to be carried out at the Centre post games:
"After the Games" The Aquatics Centre will be transformed into a facility for the local community, clubs and schools, as well as elite swimmers, attracting an anticipated 800,000 visitors a year. All the pools have moveable booms and floors to create different depths and pool sizes, so it can be used by swimmers of all abilities and experience. After the Games, the venue’s operator after the Games will be Greenwich Leisure Limited The two temporary wings will be removed – reducing its capacity to 2,500 – although it will be possible to increase the venue capacity for major competitions. The venue will also feature a creche, family-friendly changing facilities and a cafe, alongside a new public plaza in front of the building. I wouldn't think that it will be open in September if this work has to be done. |
In early September the Paralympics may still be on, surely?
Anyway, the Olympic Park won't be reopened to the public until July 2013. |
Thank you!
If you are here early September, you should get tickets to the Paralympics! I plan to go, as I couldn't get athletics tickets for the Olympics.
Kate that is a great idea!
The organisers think this will be the best attended paralympics ever - there is traditionally strong support for the paralympians in the UK anyway, and with Olympic fever well and truly off the scale in London right now, most people I know are going, so the atmosphere should be fantastic!
You may want to get your tickets ASAP. i just looked online and all Athletics/Swimming sold out for Paralympics (gutted as wanted to go) BUT that is on the UK website, so your own countries web may still have availability. There are tickets still available for many other events inlcuding the opening and closing cermonies!
Yup - I just checked as well - nothing available at the Olympic Park at all from the UK site. :(
There are opening and closing ceremony tickets but they are expensive!
I even found some closing ceremony tickets for this Sunday BUT £1500 each!!!!!!! |
The Australian site says they're now only available with a travel package. Maybe there will be releases on the day once it starts. Does anyone know?
Interestingly there was a piece on one of the local TV news broadcasts about pressure to keep the park open for a week or two after the Paralympics closes, and Our Beloved Mayor TM was cagily hinting that there might be discussions going on. Don't hold your breath, as I assume the legacy developers want to get as much work done as possible before the weather turns.
