Visiting London... how would I get to Fishguard Wales?
I am planning a very short trip to London early next year.
We were thinking about visiting someone who lives near Fishguard. We really do not want to mention the visit until we understand how hard it would be to get there from London. Here in Texas, I would recommend driving such a short distance. I am a very good and experienced driver but unsure of my skills driving on the other side of the road :) Any recommendations? Cheers! |
London to Fishguard is not a short distance - it is about 275 miles. Don't even try to compare Texas distances to UK distances. Not the same animal at all.
But not to worry - you can take the train. It would be faster, easier, and probably cheaper than driving if you book your tickets far enough ahead. |
You'll be fine - just remember the driver sits nearest to the middle of the road and the passenger makes sure you drive on the right (sorry LEFT) side of the road :-D
According to mapquest it should take you 4 hours - sounds right to me judging by our trips when we used to visit family in Cardiff |
There are two trains a day, timed to meet the ferries running between Fisguard and Rosslare in Ireland. Both involve connections and take 4.5 to 6 hrs, depending on the connecting time. See www.nationalrail.co.uk for fares and timing.
Driving the 250 odd miles would be about 5 hours, assuming no traffic or weather problems. Recommendations? If it is indeed a "very short trip", I wouldn't spend the time required for this journey. |
Oops sorry - logistics

ayla: 4 hours?? Mapquest needs its head examined. It would probably take the OP an hour just to get out of greater London.

True - but I was basing my assumptions that the OP would be driving from LHR. We used to live a couple of miles from the airport and it generally took us just over 2 hours to drive to Cardiff. If they have to drive from central London (and I'm not sure TxTravelPro would like that) I'd personally add another 2 hours to the journey :-) |
