Visiting Croatia

Hello

We are visiting Croatia and arrive on 08 August for 2 weeks. We are staying in Dubrovnik from 15 Aug. Are you able to suggest as to what would be the best use of the first week if we hire a car.

Thanks

We spent a month in Dubrovnik in August one year, then about a month for the rest of the country, so have lots of info on our website under Croatia that might give you ideas.

I would definitely go to the Kotor Riviera in Montenegro while in Dubrovnik.

You are arriving at the busiest time of year ( August) so find ways to avoid the crowds for more pleasure. Here are a few tips that worked well for us in avoiding crowds in high season:

Here's a link to my website. Click on it and then click on Kraków to Dubrovnik 2008, Dubrovnik to Plitvice 2008 and Rovinj 2008 for what we did in Croatia. Lots of photos, too.

Must be early. It helps to actually include the link, too. Here you go!

Tom, I love your website! Have looked at it many times in the past just for fun - brings back many good memories of travels past. I'm so happy to see a link again - hadn't thought of it in quite awhile. Now I'm bookmarking this to remind myself to settle down with a cup of tea and enjoy your travel descriptions and photos again soon, hopefully when life slows down later this week.

Just returned from there. Working on my trip report.

We did day trips to Mostar, and another to Kotor and Budva, Montenegro. We only had four nights. Are you planning on Korcula after you leave Dubrovnik? If not I believe you can do that as a day trip as well and would definitely be worth it. Are you planning to spend the entire two weeks in Dubrovnik? I really thought four nights with two day trips was enough. It was horribly crowded in July, would imagine August even worse. In fact people told us it was worse in August.

We did two nights in Korcula, then two in Split with a day trip to Trogir. All those places were much less crowded than Dubrovnik. With two whole weeks I would definitely include these other places.

isabel, looking forward to your trip report!

Hi Isabel

No we are staying in Dub for a week and a week towards Split. We plan to cover a lot of islands and maybe 2/3 days and the evenings in Dub. Did you guys drive or caught buses / tours?

thanks

Anil

AnilG, we were in DBV May of 2009 and we rented a car to get places. Korcula, for example, is quite far by car and I would not recommend as a day trip (by car or bus). We stayed there for 3 nights. Perhaps there are ferries that would get you there faster.

Montenegro is more do-able as a day trip, but would be nice if you could stay for one or two nights. The Kotor fjord is amazing.

Are you locked into your lodging for the full 2 weeks?

AnilG Aug 5th, 2010 02:43 AM

Krgystn

We are locked from 15 Aug in Dub. Been trying to find suitable accommodation in Korcula / Hvar and Split for 7 nights. Plan to hire a car at Dub airport and then make Korcula the first stop.
I am now thinking whether to do Kocula & Hvar and then do 2 nights in Kotor? So much to see such little time.

The DBV airport is on the way to the border. How about doing Montenegro first, then shoot up to Korcula/Hvar? Then go to Split and finally end in DBV for the final week.
